Ok so I’ve been accepted and it looks like there are so many housing choices! Does anyone know what is the nicest or most ideal place to live! And what is the difference between the “freshman year experience community” and the “college of liberal arts and sciences community”. Those looked like my two choices…

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) residential community is compiled of people that have that major and are in that college. The Freshmen Year Residential Experience (FYRE) communities are made up of freshmen and it doesn’t matter what their major is. Any freshman can live in FYRE Communities but only a freshman with a major under the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences can live in the CLAS Community.

If you have questions about any of the dorms, I may be able to help with them. :)

If you’re not in the honors college, Hassayampa is most certainly the best. The others are varying levels of fine to disgusting. Especially Manzanita. I’ve heard it’s horrible. But people manage anyway, so maybe it isn’t as bad as general opinion? Also Center Complex is really old, and I while haven’t heard it was disgusting, but it does have a lot of issues. One of the dorms there, Irish C, was built in the 1940s. So yeah. If you have the money, go for Hassay.

thanks guys! well do you think as a freshman it would be better to live in the freshman housing or liberal arts housing? im a psych major and want to make sure i wont have trouble making friends in hassay…
which one is more social and fun?

Manzanita is not that bad…I live here and I love it! But you don’t have to worry about getting placed there because after residents move out this year, they are gutting it out and completely renovating it.

Personally, I haven’t met anybody who lives in the liberal arts housing. I currently live in a FYRE community (all freshmen, any major) and I like being able to meet people who have different majors than me. I think either way you’ll be able to make friends. This year, the liberal arts housing is actually in Hassayampa (they just have a floor or two in there) so I’m pretty sure next year it will still be located in Hassay.

Actually, despite Irish C’s age it was the most popular of the dorms in center complex because of its enclosed courtyard with hammocks. Hayden East and West are also very nice and new.

Yes, most of the people I know lived there and really liked it. On the flip side, I’ve heard bad things about the bathrooms and how they generally failed. I believe there were very few working showers. Also apparently security is iffy there, it’s apparently very easy to break into rooms through the windows. It really depends on what you care about.

I think it’s great to live with people outside of your major - it’s more universal. However, I lived in the CLAS hall (which was building G? and H in Hassy for 2009) and I knew a lot of people with majors that were different from mine (Psych) from Biology to History. It was the same as other halls, from what I know from my friends and visiting other dorms. I liked having some people that had similar majors and classes to me in order to study together. A lot of late night studying goes down in those dorms and it’s great to have people in your field surrounding you.

I thought about moving into Hayden, not a bad choice if you want to save money. I was going to transfer to Sonora as well.
