I have a really common name (Michelle) and I'm tired of being one of a 5 or 6 different Michelles. I really like my name and I don't want to stray too far from it, but it's wearing on my nerves always being Michelle L. or the redheaded Michelle or the tall Michelle or whatever else. So when I go to college, I want to fill in the little box that says "Prefer to be called" with a less common nickname that I can start going by. Has anybody ever done this before, and with what kind of results?

Also, please help me pick my nickname! I've already thought of Mimi, Mia, Maya, Mischa, and Elle. Which one do like best? Any other suggestions?

Haha, well I'm certainly not "mushy", I'm about 5'6", 110lbs. Some of my friends call me "Mish" but I wouldn't want to be putting that (or Mushy) at the top of my senior thesis. :)

The nickname we use for one of my friends with your same name is 'Mish' (or at least pronounced that way, I've never verified the correct spelling).

knoxxxville, you totally remind me of me!! my name's lauren and there are a bunch of other laurens at my school and i was thinking about going by my middle name (which is michelle, ha!) or a nickname in college but i haven't figured out the perfect one yet. I like "Chelle", personally...

swasesuww - don't go by Michelle! I only know 1 Lauren but I know 5 Michelles! You should go by Lo, it's a cute and pretty nickname for Lauren and plus it's the name of a pretty girl on 'Laguna Beach' :)

"How did you get that interesting name, Oil?"

"Well, I was trying to think up a nickname for college, and somebody suggested that I go by Chevelle, and then he thought of Shell, like Shell Oil, and then we just shortened it to Oil."

We call ours Miche, pronounced like Mischa but without the -a on the end (or like Michelle pronounced the french way (like in the Beatles song!) but without the -elle).

Calling someone Chelle just seems kinda odd to me. Like a seashell, or oil, or... I don't know.
