<p>I definitely think you can go by D or Dye even if you’re afraid you’ll sound like a “tool”. Just introduce yourself as your real name and say “But you can call me D (or whatever you end up choosing)”. I think most people would be totally cool calling you by a nickname and understand why since you have a unique name.</p>
<p>I might find it strange if someone introduced themselves to me as a single letter. “Hi. I’m D,” but it would definitely be a conversation starter, so really no biggie. Go by what you want! :)</p>
