BB T9S6 EXpert Help Needed DIRE
T9S6, QUESTION 22

The narrator's attitude toward the young clerks in Akaky's office is primarily one of
a. disapproval of their cruelty.
b. annoyance with their disrespect for supervisors.
c. dissatisfaction with their laziness.
d. mock sympathy for their lack of challenge.
e. amusement over their antics.

the answer is A, but I don't know the rationale behind it.
the collegeboard website mentions the young clerk's reaction of being "cut to the heart" when he hears Akaky Akakyevitch saying "Leave me alone! Why do you insult me?" but I still don't quite get it.

I think that the disapproving attitude is so subtle; CAN ANYONE GIVE ME POINTERS TO THIS? At least some quotes or evidence off the passage?

I don’t have the BB at the moment, but can I ask why the title is what it is?

I just did this question
The narrator isn’t annoyed at them because they’re annoying Akaky, who isn’t really their supervisor. The passage makes no mention of their laziness or amusement. Neither does it have anything to do with lack of challenge.
The narrator is showing disapproval because their actions are cruel.

What answer did you choose? Which answer do you think applies more than A? The other choices are completely absurd.
