Anyone taking night classes? Most of my classes are over by 4:30pm but on Mondays and Wednesdays, I have spanish from 5pm-7pm. I'm not too concerned with walking at night, but I wanted to hear some of your guy's experiences with evening classes.

walking at night? worried about getting mugged? I guess that could depend where your at, but honestly, and more so since your a guy, i wouldnt give it a second thought.

As far as the actual night class, how focused are you. I have been in a number ofn ight classes my longest was 4hrs on Thrusday nights. But as long as you can stay focused (haha can depend on the class) and work hard it shouldnt be too bad. most professors will give you a break or two and a lot of times you dont even go the entire time. night classes are nto ofr everyone just like morning classes are not for everyone. I wouldn’t worry though

I don’t know most of my classes yet. We register for them at orientation, which starts the 16th and class registration occurs on Thursday the 18th. The only classes I know are those that I’ve been pre-registered for as a music major. For those, I do have some night classes. I have my piano studio class at 6:30-7:55 on Wednesdays. Most likely for band, I’ll be in the one that’s Tuesday 4:05-5:35 & Thursday 6:00-7:30pm. We also have the School of Music convo at 4-5pm on Thursdays. Other than those, I’m thinking the rest of my classes are/will be during the day and end by 3-4pm.

I was supposed Calc tuesday and thursday from 5:45 to 7:30, my only concern was that I would be too tired to do any work after or have no time to eat dinner. It got dropped last month when I tested out based on my AP scores, so now I have english at 8:30 AM on those days. I’m not a morning person, so I want that math class back

I mostly take night classes, but, I’m a nontraditional student so that’s normal for me. If I could have my classes whenever and didn’t have a spouse and baby to work my schedule around, I would never take a night class. I do my best work at night, so I really want that time free to study and work on papers. As far as safety goes, it is a concern for me as my school is in a rougher neighborhood and I get out of my late class at 10 pm. Try to walk out the same time as several other students, hopefully some are walking the same way. Park under a light if your driving your own car. Usually though most college campuses have security that is aware of when students are getting out of class after dark and they do a few more patrols.

Thanks for the quick response, guys. Yeah, i’m not too worried about having Spanish at a later time. Most of my classes start at 11am-12:30pm with the exception of my stat class, which begins on 9am on wednesday, but I know for sure I am not a morning person! I’ve always loathed waking up at 6-7am during high school and I would be late to school sometime because I overslept, so 9 am will be my earliest ever now. Thank god. Lol.

I have honors seminars on Monday from 6:00 to 6:50 and Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 and a film class on Wednesday from 6:30 to 9:30. I don’t really mind the first two but Wednesday’s going to be a very long day.

^ damn, until 9:30pm? But at least it’s a film class, so that should be interesting.

I had a Chem Lab that went until 10 PM. In the fall I’m going to avoid night classes as much as possible.

Every day I end before 3 except on Wednesday where all but one of my classes end before 3, followed by a 4 hour break before a 7-9:30pm honors seminar. Honestly I chose it because it was the only honors seminar that could fulfill my gen. ed. requirement as well and I have been told by students at orientation that seminars tend to be easier and more involved. In high school I had Ravens Marching Band from 7-10:00pm on Wednesdays, so I am assuming the transition should not be that big of a deal. Besides, I only have one class on Thursday so I should be fine.

In 3 years I’ve only had 1 night class…6 - 9 PM chem lab. I loved that lab because everyone is a bit goofy and jokes about inserting hoses onto pipes and getting suction (among 1000 other that’s what she said jokes) was the highlight.

I have a bio lab from 6:30-9PM on Wednesdays. Worst day of the week.

Fun.

rofl, i’ve had a class go from 7-10:30 oO and it was a history class.

Its not that bad walking back tbh. I normally don’t use my mp3 player, and the paths are very well lit. The only thing i’m concerned about running across is a mountain lion or a bear (we get quiet a few sightings). But to contrast that i normally walk about 10 or so feet behind another group, so its not much of a problem.

I’ve had my japanese classes from 4-7:30 before (and often the prof would keep us later then that). Not a big deal man :)

My astronomy lab goes from 8:10 to 10:30 PM on Tuesdays. :D

I’ve got 2 this semester…Psych from 6-9pm and Alg2 from 6-10pm BLAAAH! Alg2 that late is gonna suck but it beats a 3 hour commute round trip.

Wow, classes till 10:30? Sounds pretty intense. I think mine will be rough on Wednesday just because I have a 10am, noon, and 3:00 before my night class. The other two days I’m fine with because they’re not nearly as late and I only have afternoon classes the following days anyway.

I’ve taken several night classes and will have one this upcoming semester letting out around 9 PM. Even my dinky little CC is well-lit, and there are a few other classes that get out just as late. There won’t be a huge crowd, but chances are you won’t be walking alone. Just try to keep some situational awareness and you should be fine.

I’ll have an econ class from 6:30-9:15 on Wednesdays in the fall. Shouldn’t be too bad though.

If you stay in a college town typically you shouldn’t have to worry about safety. I had night classes that last past 9pm ( will do the same for this fall). I also sometimes will work until 2am. My biggest concern would only be drunk drivers or wild animals specificallly coyotes (ah…that was actually probably my biggest concern), as they are more known to venture within cities. Jeez they are even known to habit Chicago. However this fall it would be lesser of a worry since I will not walk past heavy wooded areas or along the river ( I think).

Oh yeah coyote one might sound odd but walking at night you tend to hear/see animals, more common like owls etc…

This semester I have classes 4:30 - 5:45 (M, W) and 6 - 8 (Th). I had a bio lab from 6-9 and a chem lab from 6-9 last semester. It wasn’t fun at all, considering I had a full day of normal classes topped by a 3 hour night lab. This semester shouldn’t be too bad because I don’t have a crazy thursday.
