Nightlife/Parties at UT

Hi, I'm just wondering about the nightlife at UT. I know they were ranked high in top party schools but I would rather get a feel of the atmosphere from real people. It's not like it's my sole focus at school but I still want it to be a part of my college life. How are the parties at UT and are they in abundance? Do a lot of parties happen on campus? What about off campus? And are the students outgoing and friendly? I'm just trying to find out a little more about it. Thanks!

Most parties are all off campus. People are friendly. Alternative identification isn’t necessary at off campus student parties but a necessity for downtown and restaurants.

So is it easy to find parties as a freshmen?

go Greek…

That’s kind of sad if you have to go Greek to find parties… I hope it’s not like that

you defnitely don’t need to go greek to find parties. it just sucks for guys, b/c if your not greek, you can’t really be “apart” of greek life b/c all the houses have lists.

but EVERY apartment complex has parties in almost every room on friday and saturday nights. you could litterally party hop all night, and there is ALWAYS something going on

The parties in Austin, TX are second to none. Finding one should be the least of your concerns.

Sounds good :]

If you are a girl, you can pretty much go to whatever events you want, and there will be lots of them: fraternity parties, house parties, apartment parties, bar tabs, club events, etc.

For guys, if a particular organization is hosting an event (not just Greek orgs), you usually need to be on the guest list to get in–this means being in the organization or knowing an active who has invited you. Otherwise, there are still lots of parties on campus every night and usually people won’t say anything about strangers showing up at a party if they look like they’re in school–in fact, they’re usually pretty outgoing and will introduce themselves/get to know you.

Greek life is only about 10% of the university, and the traditional IFC/Panhellenic organizations an even smaller percentage, so you don’t have to be Greek to have an active social life. Greek life can be a great addition to anyone’s college experience, however, it really just depends on the person.
