Today the worst possible thing a Fall '11 transfer could want to happen happened to me.

During a routine counselor meeting, my 5th this semester (i know). My counselor left the room to go "Check over something" with another counselor. I calmly filled out IGETC sheets to kill time. When she came back she looked like she had bumped into Death himself in the hallway and said, "You're 1 unit short". I wasn't sure if she was kidding or not, so I smiled. Wrong move on my part, and she said it again, "You're 1 unit short".

Explanation:
Anywho, I went on a family trip to Nigeria last December. And my Art History teacher forced me to drop her class and take a W because "I would have missed more than 3 classes." Because of that my unit total fell from 62 to 59. Add onto that that I'm retaking a course, Stat. And I'm short a unit.

Action:
My counselor said that my best course of action would be to appeal and grab an extra course over summer. UCD is my dream school and I might not get in because 3 counselors (and myself) miscounted my units... Horrid fate, considering I'll have a 3.2-3.5 gpa at the end of this semester...

Finally I have a good explanation for my 2 rejections (UCSB, UCSC) so far. Previously I thought it was because i didnt have my math pre-req completed.

Thoughts? Any other plans of action? Anything at this point is helpful really.

I honestly feel bad but at the same time it is sort of your fault. You should have manually counted the units yourself and checked to see ahead of time what units counted and what did not under your circumstances. Counselors are useless, you have to do all these things yourself. I hope everything works out for the best though.

I understand that twist. For some reason I was thinking that if i had my IGETC good to go, and took the proper amount of classes every semester I’d be fine. I’ve been taking summer classes at my CC since i was a Junior in HS. And classes are ridiculously competitive here, the largest CC in our district has 40,000 students. So its not like I’m some bum who is content taking 2 units a semester.

Again though, I’m not blaming anyone. Because to a large degree this is my fault, I would have liked for my counselors to help me when they could but it didnt happen and here I am. If it all works out ill and I do get in I’ll update this thing in May.

Wow… your story just made me check my units. Thank god I’ll be at 65. Anyway sorry to hear that. You might be able to make up the unit during the summer.

you could try and take an online class at my community college. “late starting” classes started last week, but you would need to contact the professor to petition in. 3/21-5/19. call the admission office if you’re serious and maybe they can work something out.

Here’s a suggestion: But you need to JUMP on this RIGHT AWAY!! …I actually just did this myself to fullfill a class!!

I’m not sure which part of the state you’re in, but that does not matter:

Go to DE ANZA college’s website (They are on the QUARTER system) and their spring quarter starts on the 4th of April. Apply for admission and take an online course - ANY online course that is UC transferable, just so that you can get those 3 more units in (you don’t need to actually attend any classes physically)

Yep, there has to be a way to pick up 1 unit. If the counselors can’t get you a last minute add into a 1 unit half-semester class or something, at least you can do that thing with De Anza Good luck!

no panic kc20cali, just take an online class at a quarter system community college. For De Anza it starts on the 4th, so you have a few days to pick a class

NO PANIC. You are 100% fine and dandy. Enjoy UC davis! :D
