^also it seems like more victims are male than female... guys, be careful walking home alone too! i know a lot of guys don't use bearwalk or the night safety shuttle services and feel comfortable walking home alone...but please be safe. :o

Woah…thanks…definitely woke me up. I have to say, as a freshman, somewhere in the back of my head, there was a magic little bubble around campus that just got popped.

just don’t be an idjut. if you find yourself alone walking at night, don’t pull out your smart phone. Don’t listen to your ipod. Anything that distracts your sense of vision or hearing is bad.
I was walking home at 11 last night and this girl was walking alone with her iphone in her hand and ear buds on. Couldn’t help but think, why don’t you just carry a sign asking someone to rob you?

Found this: a map of the more brightly lit, safer paths on campus that you should take at night. Though I don’t think robberies take place ON campus, right?

Have any of these things actually occurred on campus? I looked at the police site where they list all the things that have happened, but I didn’t recognize any (not that I remember) as places on campus. Maybe I just don’t know enough names of places here on campus, lol

people are stupid…the ones that don’t use bearwalk and think that they’re safe here. you’re never safe anywhere so you should ALWAYS be cautious. maybe i’m more aware because of how i grew up. I lived in the “safest” town but sh.t still went down when you least expected it. i dont think people get that girls are some of the biggest targets. use BEARWALK people.

sometimes they don’t post it on that site where people can check because maybe no one called in. i remember seeing a guy get robbed and there were like 10 people around at least but no one called the cops.

How reliable is bearwalk? I’ve heard some stories where people have had to wait like 20+ minutes at the pickup point, or they ask you if you’re serious if it’s not quite 10.

Really? ^ I haven’t used BearWalk, but I’m just thinking it’s gotta be kind of awkward to have a male (maybe?) police officer walk you for 10 mins until you get to your dorm…do you engage in small talk? stay quiet the whole time? do you even have enough small talk material to last you 10 minutes? lol

sorry, no relevance to this thread whatsoever, but in reference to ^, this article about awkward small talk made me burst out laughing when I read it haha

lol wth? okay, it’s not stupid to call bearwalk even if ur walking 1 or 2 blocks. second, they are always friendly, well most of them, and they rarely ever stay quiet. third, yeah guys use it. even my buff gsi said he had used it before.

the only thing is, i think it’s kind of stupid how they don’t wait till you get to ur door because honestly, i’ve come home at like 2 am when no ones on the street except 3 huge guys who could’ve easily done what they wanted to me. and sometimes there are homeless ppl around too.

I called BearWalk once at around 10:10pm and asked for a pick-up at Bart bus-stop because I realized the shuttles weren’t running that night after a 15 minute wait at the bus-stop (I called them to confirm about the shuttle service).

I waited for at least another 25 minutes in the freezing winter night weather and they still didn’t show up (walking back to my dorm only takes 18 minutes and I’ve already wasted 40 minutes for nothing).

I called them again to cancel the booking and the same guy GLADLY okayed my canceling…

I’m not sure how they work. Do they pick you up, drop you off in their Bearwalk shuttle THEN go pick up the next person? Or do they plan a route to pick up many people at once?

I’ve never tried BearWalk since then. But I think if you call them after 2am, they will arrive more promptly because less people are using their service.
