Who's going?

sorry to go off topic, but I saw that you attended SHARP at N.C.A&T. What type of research did you do there?

well,
I worked in the chemistry lab. This professor had created this blue complex a long time ago and a few years before i arrived a group of graduates had created a blue complex. So i recreated the two complexes and ran them thru many different tests to figure out what there molecular structures were and whether they were the same complex. Then I had to use this compute program to make 3D models of what i thot the complexes looked like.

But the majority of people did not work in a chem lab. It was just me and another guy out of 20. Most did projects related to engineering

Thanks for the info. What kind of enrichment activities did you do at NCAT? What was a typical weekday and weekend day like? Thanks.

We were very busy during the week. After work we have seminars like how to do an interview and resumes and what not and work on our JPA.

On the weekend we would go to things like the park, the movies, the mall, skating rink, bowling, d&bish places, strip malls and small events around town. One weekend we went to the beach in Va and the nasa headquarters. And the weekend after we went to a water park.

We would also play football games in a field infront of the dorm, and have movie nights. I hear that there is coed visitation now but when I went we(the girls) snuck over to the boys dorm and had a party. It was alot of fun and there is a lot to do.

They also took us to church(that ended after the second week). They would take yall to synagogues and whatever if u want because they try to expose ppl to different religions and cultures.

So there really isnt a typical weekend. They are very "action packed."

what year did you go? Did you get to visit any of the universities in the raleigh area ie: duke, etc.

I went during the summer of 2003. We visited duke but that was about it

Come on guys.

I have been offered two positions at NIH already. I know at least one other person received one.

JJKitty-

I'm in the process of applying to the NIH program right now. I just filled out the online application and one of my references has sent in his letter. So right now I'm e-mailing one of the coordinators to inform her of my interest in working there, and to see if I could get a position. I was wondering if you have any advice for me as to how I should proceed in my internship search. I know it is late already, but I would love to work there this summer if I get a chance. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you!

I dont really have much to say that hasnt already been said.

I have a friend who will be interning at NIH this summer. I believe she's leaving for DC this week (we live in CA).

JJKitty, what institute are you working in? I'll be at the Clinical Center. I know stanford_dude is working there as well...we should all try to meet up sometime. Did you ever end up finding housing?

Yeah. I am working in the NIMH and staying in AU. What about you?

I'll be staying at GWU.

Hey, I was perusing these posts, and saw my name mentioned. Lol. I am staying at AU as well, JJKitty. My roommate also works at NIH. We should meet some time!

what dept are you working in, stanford_dude? I'm in nuclear medicine.

Wow, I didn't know about this thread! Well I'll be working at the NIH as well and staying at AU. I won't be starting until the later part of June (college orientation and my VERY late high school graduation), but I think we should definitely meet up!

pathology, asterstar. I can't wait, but I too will be arriving in the middle of June. caligurl2005, you're not alone.

r yall bringing laptops/computers?

Nah, I'm not that rich. I'll probably use the computers at AU or at the NIH. I doubt we would really need our own personal computers. But each to his own I guess...
