NIH SIP (Summer Internship Program)

Hello,

A professor has contacted me and accepted me for a 8 week internship from June-August in Bethesda. I am a senior in high school going to Duke next year.

If anyone has gone through it, how is the experience? Is there anything fun to do or other interns to hang out with? Any help is greatly appreciated. Are there any places you recommend for housing?

I'm probably going to end up spending most of the stipend on living expenses, so if its not enjoyable, I'd rather just relax at home. But if its a worthwhile experience, please share your stories and I'd love to do it.

What kind of things are there to do in your free time, etc.?

Anyone? 10char

I’ve never gone, but my impression of the NIH internship is that it is definitely something to do if you are genuinely interested in your selected research topic.

From what I can tell, it seems less structured than other programs (i.e., less group activities–but don’t hold me to that, I just have that impression somehow), but that means more freedom.

It’s a selective program and an honor to have been accepted by a professor–I’d definitely participate.
