Good idea, but i kinda of emailed over 200 people
@Tobster18 Honestly at this point, I do not think they will focus on grammatical errors. I think the fact you’re taking initiative to have research at the high school level is impressive in itself.
Be confident; sometimes these things happen–besides, you can always call it a draft during an interview
@TorqueDork Very true. I’ll make a compromise. I’ll email those who replied to me and said they are in the process of application and will consider mine instead of emailing over 200 people.
@Tobster18 good plan
so keep emailing?
It never hurts to keep emailing, right. But you definitely want to have applied to other programs as back-ups if this doesn’t go as plan. That’s my strategy at least XD
Got interviewed by random person I didn’t email but then they told me today I didn’t get it
Hey guys, what are the institutes with the highest chance of getting in right now? @Tobster18 @TorqueDork
I don’t think there is a specific institute with a higher chance of getting, but I know the cancer and neuroscience ones are really hard to get in because those have the most people apply.
I agree with @Tobster18
Lol probably start emailing starting from September next year
I’m going to be doing this program this summer - does anyone know what they’re going to do about housing?
@fifteenpapers Which institute? I’m waiting to hear back after my interview, but I would potentially be at NIEHS.
@WCEdmonds I’m not sure yet!
@fifteenpapers Well, where did you interview? Have you been accepted to multiple labs?
@WCEdmonds @fifteenpapers I’m going to be at the NINDS this summer
Has anybody got the official nih documentation work done? Looks like government hiring freeze from Trump led to nih to stop the processing. My son talked to nih on the progress and learned this. Anybody in the same situation? Don’t know yet if the PI will cancel this even if we want to do the intern without the stipend.
Nih clarification: Interns are trainees and not new hires. About 300 interns accepted so far.
So a PI emailed me like three weeks ago saying that a volunteer position is possible but she needs to check on the guidelines again. So far, she has not replied back to me. Should I send her an email back?
I just started emailing last night (rather late, I know). I contacted 7 PIs and heard back from one, who said he wasn’t taking summer students this year. Should I thank him anyway or would it be annoying/unnecessary?
Also, all the PIs I’ve contacted so far are from the same division (Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics) at the NCI, which apparently is very popular. Should I reach out to people at other centers, even if they don’t match my research interests as strongly? I’m a high school sophomore, so I’ll take any opportunity.
Anyone looking for a roommate at the NIEHS?
