NIH Summer Internship Program 2018

Did you contact PI directly?

How to find PI list ?

Hey guys! I am a freshman in college who will be doing NIH SIP this summer. I am originally from Washington DC and would love to have a group to go hiking and backpacking with on the weekends. I’ll have a car so that will help. Anyone interested?

@Hexagonlover
I’m interested! Are you interning at Bethesda?

@Hexagonlover Hey! I’m going to be in Bethesda working with NINDS and I’d be interested in hiking or backpacking on the weekends! I just turned 19 and am a currently college sophomore, originally from Ohio.

Gonna be at the NCI in Frederick, MD from mid-june to mid-august. if anyone else is gonna be at this location, please HMU cause everyone seems to be going to bethesda :’( I’m a current undergrad sophomore, female. also searching for roommates/apartmentmates and housing near the NCI in Frederick.

and as for other summer activities, if anyone is going to moonrise festival in baltimore (august 11-12) or is interested in going, hmu! :slight_smile: or if anyone is down to go to other festivals, i love music events but don’t have a squad in maryland bc i’m from california and don’t know anyone else who’s going to the east coast over the summer haha. or if anyone wants to just explore the east coast in general i’m hella down cause it’s gonna be my first time there!

and most importantly… does anyone know if there’s a fb group or something for 2018 NIH interns? I feel like that’d make everything a lot easier

@Hexagonlover @WalnutGirl0303 Sounds great. I am from MN and will be at NIDCR in Bethesda. Do you want to email me at astoriadetuncq[at]gmail.com and we can get this thing going?

Just a question for next years’ cycle, do you need to have prior research experience to get accepted into a lab, because I literally have none but I read lots of research papers online so I understand a lot of the research going on in the labs right now.

It all depends on your circumstances. Firstly, you should probably start early. If you’re not in the Maryland area, that puts you at a disadvantage, especially if you’re a high schooler, because its probably connections that get you in. If you’re an undergrad, you are kind of expected to have some research experience. I got accepted for this year’s summer as a high schooler outside of Maryland, but a major factor was that the professor liked my previous experience. So yes, you don’t need experience, but it definitely helps. If you have other questions, just dm me.

Any tips and tricks to get accepted? What did you talk about in your cover letter and application

my house is airbnb and i’m also looking into this program for NIH next year. we live like 15 mins away from the bethesda one
