Hey guys! I was recently accepted into the NIH SIP as a high school junior, and I'm curious if any alumni (or anyone who knows of the program) can give me some advice/information on this program in terms of quality of experience, prestige, results (able to get a Siemens project/publication)? Thanks!

NIH is not usually helpful in getting you into science fairs. You should talk to your advisor to make sure your expectations are reasonable based on the rules they have in place. Their goal is usually to get you to present a summer poster but not necessarily to get you to write papers or compete somewhere like one or two other summer programs. So it is important to find out upfront what is allowed.

It is a prestigious program but what you get out of it depends on your advisor and the specific lab. At the least you should get research experience, a recommendation letter, a presented poster at a prestigious program.

Thanks for the reply! Have you participated in this before? Also, would you take this program over staying with a professor you’ve been with for a year already and are in a middle of a long-term project?
