NIT's or IIT's vs UC Berkeley

Actually, this is a question by my friend who does not use internet. He was accepted to UCB EECS, and is confident that he will get in a NIT, but he is not sure about a good IIT? What should he choose? With May 1 looming, he has to SIR at Berkeley.

UC Berkeley definitely.

Good, but more than 1 crore on undergrad. Will it make any difference?

Any IIT > NIT >= Berkeley (1.2++ Cr).

you think so?

Its just dependent on how rich the guy is :confused:
Also, funny that he can spend crores of money yet no access to internet xD

1.2 crore for the whole course right?
If finance is not an issue then is IIT still better?

@robots156 Yes because his parents are very strict.
@seamon Yes 1.2 crore for the whole course … I was only asking the second question.

I think it depends on what factors are important for you.

Actually IIT(s) would still be on par to UCB in terms of academics, though lacking in social life

I think it depends on what factors you consider important.

Hey, Since you wanna work in Silicon Valley and want a good CS education, UCB definitely. But if finances are a concern, IIT’s all the way. Or if a hefty loan doesn’t make you lose sleep, take the loan (if possible, that is). You ROI is much better that way.
@Robots156

No. Far from it. IIT’s<<<UCB in every damn aspect. I am unable to see a single reason why IIT’s are even compared to such colleges.

I agree with you on this @BetterThanBest

whelp let every (wo)man have his/her opinions.

If one seeks a job in India after undergrad, I don’t see any institute beating IIT in terms of sheer brand presence.

@hezekiel: Very True.

Yeh I too agree with @hezekiel and @Robots156 … but what if someone wants to become an entrepreneur?

Then the 1.2 crores would be much better spent on your start up founded by you and your fellow IIT’ians :D

I want to start working after graduating so which is the better option for admission as an undergrad - IIT or a US university?

IIT all the way
