GPA: 3.2
SAT: 1470

Freshman: 2 Honors
Sophomore: 2 Honors
Junior: 2 Honors
Senior: 1 Honors, 2 AP (Statistics, World History)
I do not have much Extra Curricular at ALL....but for what its worth it consists of church work (vacation bible school, president of youth group) and photography/videography (portraits, weddings, events, etc.)

The school that i'm trying to get into is Rutgers University, New Brunswick for business. I'm aware that my GPA won't fair well and my SAT is drastically lower than average here. I just want to know if there's even a glimmer of hope for acceptance, and that if at least a few other people with similar statistics got accepted as well.

Another school that i'd be happy about is Rowan University for business, and i'm just wondering what my chances are there too and how selective it is.

Any kind of help would be appreciated. Also, any other colleges you guys recommend would be totally welcome too.

well for rutgers I would suggest that you apply to something other than business then transfer into the b school later on. Also I would suggest you apply to the newark and camden campuses at Rutgers since you have a much better chance of gaining acceptance there then transfer to new brunswick. You have a good gpa but your SAT scores are going to be your downfall, is there any way you can retake them or try the ACT because your chances are very slim at this point with that score and lack of ECs. I would also suggest you send them a portfolio of your photographs it might help. AS for Rowan you have a much better chance at acceptance there and your sat scores are very close to having a decent shot at acceptance but maybe not into the business school. I would suggest you take a look at monmouth, kean, and william paterson all in nj at a similar or lower level to rowan.

Yea hopefully they’ll recommend a different major for me if i dont get accepted into business for Rutgers. Unfortunately i took the SAT 3 times already and ended up with that 1470, so im afraid it wont do too much good taking it for a 4th time.
As for Rowan, i actually went on tour there a few days ago and the tour guide said that the average gpa for a business major is a 2.5 gpa here? From what i heard the Engineering program is highly selective and it heavily weighted the overall average for Rowan.

and i really dont wanna sound like a snob for asking this question but does the fact of me being korean factor into admission for either Rutgers or Rowan for things such as diversity? I know Rutgers is veryyy diverse like statistically 25% of the students are asian and for Rowan not so much i heard.

o wow the average gpa is that low for the rowan business school i didnt expect that so i guess you have an even better chance now provided that the person really knew what they were talking about lol. As for being korean that might have a factor in admissions but typically a negative one seen asians are seen as an overrepresented minority.but did u apply to other schools in rutgers new brunswick? If not they will not recommend you to another school if you are rejected from the business school.

Haha yea hopefully thats the case. Hopefully someone confirms that it really is a 2.5 gpa. As for rutgers im pretty positive that they recommend other schools that you didnt apply to yet. just checked the FAQ:

I was admitted to a school to which I didn’t apply. How is that possible?

Our goal is to provide maximum consideration for every applicant. If we are unable to offer you admission to the school(s) you have selected, we will consider your application for other appropriate Rutgers school choices.

I don’t think being Korean will hurt at Rutgers or other public Jersey schools unlike other schools like Harvard or Duke

THat 1420 is out of 2400? Low. Plus 3.2 GPA? Maybe Rowan, but find some serious safeties.

1470*. And yea im thinking about montclair as my safety.

oo ok i didnt know they did that. So do you want to stay in new jersey? Also look into richard stockton college and rider university they will be closer to matches for you but not necessarily a safety.

Extremely prefer to stay instate haha but if the college is that good feel free to recommend anywhere outside it. Dont really know too much about stockton and rider is way too expensive to me, doesnt seem to be worth it.

if you dont mind me asking what is the budget that you are working with? hopefully with that i would be able to recommend some good schools out of nj

I dont necessarily have a budget, its just the bang for my buck and if its worth it. However, tuitions like $40,000+ are out of the question unless they have generous financial aid lol.

Im new here. Does bump mean ignore the question?

no its just so the thread can be back up closer to the front of the forum lol
