NJ Governor's School

By the way, spunkydolittle, I'd be interested in reading your Ode... or should I say Fode? Ha... ha... Ok that didn't work.

Looks like Gov School for the Sciences is on. My friend got a phone call two days ago.

I'm a finalist for International STudies...and yes. nothing. still nothing!

Yeah, I heard that too.

Environment here :

how much does this suck?!

my summer is ruined. you think they'd have the nerve to let us know what's going on....but hey, welcome to new jersey. =]

I'm gonna try to get my parents to donate some money to the environment school. I hope there isn't a minimum donation or anything.

which school do you think is LEAST likely to get the support to run?

www.savegs.com

From the Philadelphia Inquirer:
But there is a deeper reason for all of us to hope that Corzine reconsiders this decision. That $1.92 million spent on New Jersey's brightest was the only program the state offered for gifted and talented kids. (Local school boards fund all gifted-and-talented programs from the local tax take.) Now that state funds are gone, New Jersey budgets not a single dollar - not one blessed cent - for the children who are its most valuable human capital.

Plus, the writer mentions that he met his now-wife when he attended Governor's School himself. And a friend of mine is getting married this summer after meeting her now-fiance at Governor's School last year.

From the Star Ledger:
This is a win-win, Corzine spokesman Anthony Coley said. The students get their programs, and the taxpayers save $2 million.
Yeah, this situation is perfectly satisfying. Even IF all the programs get enough funding in the end, I'm still voting for the leading candidate against Corzine in the next gubernatorial. :)

hmm, I am a finalist, but now that it's reinstated, let's hope I am one of the 400 of us that are actually chosen to attend! :-P

....does anyone know when we are even supposed to receive our letters?

According to one article, the government may consider funding part of it if they get enough private donations. Or something like that.

Btw there are 625 scholars, not 400. :)

I called the executive director, and her new message says to call her office if you don't receive your letter by next Friday. Soo we should be hearing within a week. I think they're mailing them out this weekend or Monday.

Wait..all the schools are reinstated or just some?

I've only heard that the Sciences school is reinstated, but they're looking to find private funding for all six.

Save NJ Governor's School!

That stinks--that's the one I wanted to apply to but my school decides for us which ones we must apply to....

But I already applied to my summer work so I guess it doesn't matter much.

I applied to the Environment school instead of Sciences because I didn't think I was good enough for the latter. But I would've preferred the latter. Greatly.

Yeah they told me...Engineering. They said if I wanted I could apply to environment because they didn't pick anyone to apply to that from our school, but I just went with what they assigned. It stinks too because I got a higher grade in chem and bio then the person sent for science (she had the second highest grade in science classes, but her math grades were quite low so they couldn't switch us)

It was probably based on EC's.

No, they don't even know our ECs...they really don't know anything about us except our grades.

Oh, I see how it worked. They couldn't decide between you and the other person for science, so they put you with engineering because you clearly fit that school better than the other person.

That happened at my school too. Or maybe that was because the more-qualified person handed in her form a day late.

I got my letter today for the Public Issuses School....Did anyone else get theres?

i am a music finalist and still no letter. ive written emails to the director but all the replies say to call the number but no one picks up. this is so frustrating because if i knew this was gonna happen i would've applied for aspen or tanglewood. corzine sucks my left testicle.

what do u play?
