NC has a Governor's School, but it's heavily biased towards performing arts (read: band) compared to acedemics. I'm kind of glad I didn't get in, because I plan on doing Summer Ventures instead, which is more science-oriented.

HAHAHA, oh u should visit hunterdon county, rich white people country... no offense if u are caucasian, but yea... it's the snobs of nj

as a caucasian i take offense to that...

actually im not even caucasian, rich, or a snob

haha, just messin with my head huh? but u live in jersey, u gotta know what hunterdon's like...

lol actually i dont even know where hunterdon is, im from ocean county. Its like monmouth except with less rich people and smaller property. hehe

well... hunterdon is like monmoth... more white... and richer...

In fact, I had never heard of governor's school before I came to CC.

ocean county is a little better than camden

camden is the most dangerous city in the us according to crime statistics. pretty interesting

NJ aside, i would still like an opinion as to my chances

You got an email from the state already? Wow... I haven't even heard from my county yet... is that a bad sign? I'm applying for International, by the way. It's hard to tell how well you'll compare without knowing your extracurriculars, essays, etc. and without knowledge of the rest of the applicant pool. I don't know how they weight things for Science, but I get the feeling that at least for International they count extracurriculars, essays, and teacher recs a lot more heavily than grades, gpa, and test scores (there were 5 applying for the nomination at my school, and I got picked over my two friends who had near- perfect PSAT's and grades to match, so that's my sense of it). Again, I don't know how it is for Science. Good luck!

thanks... u in jersey too? seems theres' lots of us... and yea, i'm the only person i know who got an email... and my stats are subpar to most of urs and my friends

Just out of curiosity, what did the email say? I can't imagine it's a bad sign, quite the contrary...

Oh, I just got an email from the Gov School of Sciences celebrates. It just says that I've passed the application pool for my county and I'm now in considered in the final round of the application process. I should know of acceptance on March 30.

yes... that... exactly... maybe i'll see you there... haha, probably not *not because ur not qualified... more the opposite of that... i'm... not making sense?

I emailed nj gov school to see if everyone that was sent to state got notified and this was their reply:
"Each county is supposed to send letters
to all applicants letting them know whether they are finalists or not.
The counties should mail them by Monday, January 31, but some counties
mailed them earlier. If you have not heard the results by early
February, please call me the week of February 7. Thank you."

oh yeah, out of curiosity how do you make those little quote box thingies ppl use all the time?

I'm a finalist for the School of International Studies! Does anyone know what the chances are of getting in once you're a finalist? How many people are rejected during the first round?

congrats to everyone who passed counties, and good luck to all those waiting for states. we have two more months of waiting to go!

So people who passed the county selection got a letter and people who didn't will not get a letter?
