Thank you for this thread - I went throught the piles of mail and found the letter for my daughter. If anybody else can’t find theirs, it is in an envelope from the State of NJ Higher Education Student Assistance Authority. I thought it was more marketing material.

…my daughter qualified with class rank in top 10% and SAT scores over 1300. Her GC verified her name had been sent to the state in Sept or Oct and he’s taking steps this week to find out why she never got an invite or award notice. My question is this…her Mar '09 score was 1250 but her June '09 score was over 1300. The official site says “end of Junior year” qualifications, so this seems to verify an oversight…but does anyone know if they have a specific date the test must have been taken by to qualify? I can find nothing that specific.

Our letter did not arrive until late December–this was two years ago, after I made a call to HESAA, and they checked and saw the award was earned, and sent the letter. This was with >1500 CR+M and qualifying rank. If the kid qualifies but did not get a letter, don’t assume that they did not win the award. Call HESAA yourself or if you trust GC to follow through, let them call. I don’t think there are any further cuts made to nominations by HESAA, as long as SATs meet the minimum. The money is divided according to the number of kids who qualify each year and attend in-state colleges. This one reason why the amount awarded varies slightly from year-to-year.

well both the GC and I called Hessa and had to leave voice mails…holiday season and all. But a receptionist said if an error was made in missing my daughter, it would be rectified…should have gotten his name, rank and serial number for future reference : ) … the GC said in his experience no student who qualifies has been denied so there’s that… will post any news…

This is weird. Some peole in my school who got the nomination were outside the top 10% range…
