Is anyone else applying?
This program is usually less known.

I’m applying!
What school are you from?

I probably shouldn’t share that information on here :x
Anyway, I’m excited!

haha it’s fine. me too! im so glad that i was nominated i know somebody who did it last year and he said it was amazing!

I’m glad I was nominated as well, but I feel like I have it easy because most of the intelligent students at my school are too lazy to spend the summer doing work :P

I wonder if there are any former scholars on here who can talk about their experiences and the application process more…

i know there are lots of other threads that talk about the interviews…

Really?! I could only find a general thread from several years back. Do you have the links?

i’m applying! im so excited and nervous at the same time :P

i know they can’t accept more than one applicant per school, but do any of you know if it’s possible to have more than one applicant per school make it to the interview?

more than one person can be accepted from one school, same with interviews

I’ve actually read that before, haha
But thanks anyway!

A general question, but what are the application requirements for 2011? My guidance counselor is being a D-bag and not responding to my e-mails over the break because he apparently needs a rest from his work…stupid.

Anyway. I know he’ll sponsor me, but likely not till the 3rd or 4th, and I want to be able to write the essays over break while I still can. What are the questions/application guidelines that you guys know of?

I’ll copy the checklist I received:
NJSP application: personal information, activities form, and 4 essays (#1 academics; #2 activities; #3 your main interests/why do you want to participate in this program; #4 the most important problem facing America and your recommendations to solve the problem)

An essay or term paper previously prepared for a class that is representative of the caliber of your work (must be typed)

Recommendation from a teacher or guidance counselor

High school transcript

I’m not sure how your guidance counselor does this, but mine sends out all applications for us as long as we get everything in by January 3rd. All teacher recommendations and guidance things must be e-mailed to her by then as well.

mine does the same thing. all of the nominees are handing in their complete applications to the guidance department on january 3 and they’re being sent in together.

Apply to NJSP, tell your friends. It’s great. :)

I attended this past summer. It is a fabulous program and it is definitely worth applying. Good luck to everyone in this first stage of the application! If you have any questions feel free to ask.

My friend and I (from the same school) both attended. And the other girl nominated from our school made it to the interviews. There were quite a few other doubles (even one triple) as well.

Good luck to everyone who’s applying. I look forward to seeing some of you at the interview and tour! My best advice is relax and treat it as the fun discussion it should be. Don’t bogart the conversation, you want to let other people talk. If you’re finding that you’re talking too much, feel free to ask other people questions. What’s also really important is that you actually talk to people, which means that you should be listening to what they’re saying and responding to it or building off of it. They’re looking for your ability not only to have a good dialog, but also your ability to bring the level of discussion up. Look at your peers when your talking, and honestly, enjoy yourself! They’re looking for people who are passionate about learning and sharing that learning, so if they can see that you’re having a good time then that’s a serious plus!

If you guys have and other questions about the interview process (or anything about the experience), I’d be happy to answer your questions!

Do you need to submit PSAT scores?
