I have been selected as a semifinalist for the NJ scholars program, and there is a discussion based interview. For anyone who has gone through this process, or attended the program, what is the interview like? What kind of questions do they ask? How can I prepare? Please share!! Thanks.

Sure…I’m assuming your going to the interviews this Friday or Saturday, because I’m going to be giving tours this Friday and Saturday. The interview is completely discussion based–the interviewers or sometimes even the potential scholars choose topics. The topic is then thrown into the group and through an informal discussion between the potential scholars, with little moderation from the interview leader, the interview takes place. It is tough to prepare for because it has nothing to do with the summer topic. The best advice I can give is whenever you speak, make sure your words are effective and not a repetition of someone else’s ideas. Be original. Good luck and see you on Friday/Saturday.

That is very helpful, thank you!

how did the interview go? were you accepted?

If you were accepted, you can join the NJSP 2009 group on facebook. Just search for NJSP 2009 and it should be the first group result.

why hello there teamam, I see you go to Peddie – I think I know who you are =]

what was everyones group discussion topic?

umbro, did you get in?

they asked my group about education reform and the discussion was INTENSE lol

no i was rejected; i think our group was weak, really more of a voice your oponions then actually debate anything, since everyone remained really calm and quiet, didnt want to seem to intense for fear that i would seem arrogant or overbearing.

ehh that’s a shame… what was your topic? i think they picked me just because I was arrogant and silly hah

lol it was education too, congrats to you, i took the rejection a bit hard lol being there seeeing the campus listing to the stories sorta got me envisioning my summer

aww man dude, im sorry =( if it’s of any consolation, there were some kids in my interview group who were FANTASTIC, like, unbelievable, I know that they’re gonna get into HYP colleges with their resumes and personalities, and I somehow got in and they didn’t… I still can’t figure out why…

i hope you get into gov’s school, and even if you don’t, just remember that it doesn’t guarantee anything if you do it or not. it’s a great experience, but life’s just full of great experiences so you’re not losing out

things always seem to work out the way they’re supposed to, like you’ll probably look back years from now and be like “ah, so that’s why i wasn’t meant to do that program that summer after my junior year” lol i tend to enjoy thinking of things in that way ^_^

thanks, yeah i try to keep a positive outlook. But we’re only human lol and everyone has their moments lol. I’ve spent a lot of time looking at this, sorta helped.

[worth.jpg]worth.jpg]worth.jpg (image)](<a href=“worth.jpg]worth.jpg]worth.jpg]worth.jpg (image)”>worth.jpg (image))

it’s true, though =] and yeah, easier for me to say since i got in but you’re right, we’re human lol everyone has their share of failures, this is, to be honest, my first YAY after a series of UGHs

and i love that, i think ima print that out…

raebanging…i have no idea who you are. haha. are you on the njsp 2009 fbook group?

I am – i’m “caca” =]

teamam, were you in my group? (first group on saturday with Sauermann (is that how you spell his name?))

I remember my group was really quiet and so far, I don’t know of anyone who’s gotten in from there besides me.

teamam = 2008 scholar

so conceited baconchedda
