I was wondering if anyone had first hand experience with this or if anyone would know.

I'm transferring to Rutgers with an associates and I qualify for the the NJ STARS II. It says that it will cover $7,000 a year, but is applied after all other financial aid has been awarded and it will only cover tuition and fees. My financial aid ended up covering all the tuition and fees, but not all of room and board. My question is can I choose to put the financial aid toward room and board first so that the STARS money will cover the rest? I'd hate to have it all go to waste when that was the whole reason I went to a CC.

The financial aid you receive from Rutgers can be applied to anything I believe. I don’t think you have anything to worry about. The only way to know is to send in the information to Rutgers so they can put in the $7,000 or wait till NJ STARS sends in the information. Or you could call the financial aid office and ask directly.

I’m in the NJ STARS program as well and I don’t think it does cover it. Financial aid paid more than half of my tuition and then NJ STARS paid like 2*** instead of the 7000 I was supposed to get. I think NJ STARS only covers whatever the remainder of your tuition isn’t covered by financial aid.

Yea they cut it again down to $2500. It’s bs, but since none on my financial aid was going to pay for room and board anyway it doesn’t make a difference.
