I started looking through the brochure of classes, and it seems to be a joke, with classes like "what you want to be when you grow up" and "The Gods at CNN." I noticed a few practical classes like "How to invest in the stock market." But alas there does not seem to be anything in depth or of a challenging level.

While AP Physics B is an option, I've heard from multiple people that Physics online is a terrible option to pursue

In any case who has any experience at all with NJ VHS?
How is the teaching? Anything I need to know?

Thanks...

I don’t like AP Physics B online… at all.

Well I guess then I can add you to the list of people that don’t recommend it

Anyone have any experience with VHS???

Not with NJVHS, but with my state’s online program, which I’m actually the student rep for.

I’m taking many classes online this year, let me rank them in terms of difficulty:

Honors Physics
AP Calculus BC
College Spanish I, Spanish II, Spanish III, Spanish IV (Which equals AP Spanish Language) With no prior Spanish background
…
…
…
AP Physics B

Of course the instructor is from a top magnet school and it’s my first physics class (I’m actually taking Honors Physics during the 2nd semester of AP Physics.)

Oh… and I didn’t see AP Physics listed at njvhs

its definitely available (according to the course catalog)

But I’m very hesitant to take it… ANY specific REASON/ and or REASONS why its at the bottom of your list?

I don’t know if I was quite clear, I should have said in “increasing order of difficulty.”

I really don’t like the class at all, and it is certainly the hardest I’ve taken. Our questions rarely come from the textbook (which is not recommended by the collegeboard) and instead of teaching you a concept, he expects you to come to the same conclusion that took scientists 200 years in all of 5 seconds. We have had somewhere around 175 assignments so far in the class, and no one is learning much.

There are quite a few students who want to major in physics at MIT who are struggling to maintain a low B. The one person I know of who had an A spent all of his extra time on the class and apparently got up at around 6:00am on Sunday and didn’t go to bed until midnight, was up very late during on weekdays, and met with a physics instructor several times a week. [His day of worship is on Saturday.] At this point, I don’t think even he has an A.

To be quite honest, AP Physics B is not that hard of a class. But taking it online, learning only through the written text, and then being tested on items beyond the AP level that are not taught has made it a terrible class. Personally, I’m attending college physics lectures 3 times a week, and they are so easy compared to this class.

My last word of warning is to make sure that your school has the appropriate lab materials, and that would will be able to get assistance if you need it. Personally, my school does not have the required materials and we have only 2 science teachers, neither of which have dealt with physics for the past 20 years. I had no business signing up for this class.

I hope that might help, if anyone has had a GOOD experience with online physics, speak now. I don’t think FLVS’s course is half-bad.
