Anyone know the answers to these questions?
How much free time do we have? How do the meals work? Are there specific times to go? Are three meals included? Do they have activities for us or do we get to roam free (;? How do we get assigned roommates? Is it true that drews haunted (;

Hi, I’m an NJGSS '11 alum and I can’t even emphasize enough that these are going to be the BEST three weeks of your life.
In response to your questions:
How much free time do we have?
–A good amount. You go to your classes every morning (except Wednesdays, which you have off), then lunch, and then to either lab or team project. You might need to work on team projects/ problem sets outside of class but you’re technically free after 4:30ish.
How do meals work?
–You get three meals a day. I’m going to be real with you: the food isn’t good. But it’s a conversation starter for the first few days. There are set times for breakfast, lunch, and dinner but they’re reasonable. Dinner was kind of early (at least if you ask me), but you’ll deal. By the second week, I had a box of poptarts that I would just eat on my way to my first class and every now and then, my friends and I would go out for dinner in Madison.
Do they have activities for us or do we get to roam free?
–There are some “highly-nonoptional” events (the talent show, college fair, career day), but they’re a lot of fun so you really wouldn’t miss them anyway. Apart from that, sometimes the counselors will put something fun together (we had an entire-govschool wide manhunt game, as well as a trip up to the observatory on campus, a ghost tour), but they aren’t mandatory. Free time is petty unstructured.
How do you get assigned roommates?
–Haha well, Surace (the person who does this) has a bit of a sense of humor, so last year, anyone with the same name dormed together. But really, it’s random. And I don’t know anyone who didn’t like their roommate and I think a few people had singles.
Is it true that drew is haunted?
–Haha, you’ll have to find out for yourself

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask me :)

Thank you so much! Are there places to go in Madison walking distance? What did you guys usually do in your free time?

GOT IN!!!
I’m probably not going though…you guys all have fun! This seems like such an awesome program.
Good luck to anyone on the waitlist!

Madison’s a very cute town. There’re a bunch of stores, restaurants, and eateries within a fifteen minute walk. There’s a Stop & Shop, a movie theater, etc. I would recommend Shanghai Jazz-- it’s a Chinese restaurant with really excellent live jazz. It’s kind of expensive but if you tell the owners you’re gov school kids, they’ll give you a pretty good discount.
In my free time my friends and I would go into Madison or just chill in other people’s suites. Honestly, you’ll never be bored or at a loss for things to do.

also a njgss '11 alum…headed to columbia (my dream school) in the fall, and i would have to say that gov school played a big part in that
being at gov school is kinda like actually being at college. you get three meals a day (at set times tho, and the food isnt that great, but i was partial towards the ice cream =])
that being said, you have a lot of free time, and my friends and i would use it to go into the the town of Madison and see a movie, go to dinner, or just walk around on Main Street. Occasionally, there will be organized activities to do, or you can just chill with the other scholars.
I don’t know anyone who didn’t like their roommate. Personally, I loved mine and everyone in my suite felt the same way about theirs. It all works out.
is drew haunted? well, you gotta find out for yourself!
i can remember getting my acceptance and being so excited to go. Honestly, it was one of the most incredible and fun experiences I’ve ever had, and I made so many friends who are absolutely amazing. Get excited, because it is going to be awesome!
If you have any more questions, you can message me :)
