My Kid is NMF accepted in NJIT Dorman Honors College and Rutgers Honors programme for Computer Science.
We didn’t get any scholar ship for Rutgers and some for NJIT.
I was told we will get full ride for NMF’s in NJIT. However I do not see that in the acceptance. So need to do some research…
Here is the basic info what we have at this moment…
Rutgers is 30 mins from home and will attend from home… and we might pay for 20k per year.
NJIT is 60 min’s away from home and planning to stay in Dorm and we might pay for 10k per year.
Here is Kid’s profile:

Which is good in terms of career, campus placements – NJIT Dorman Honors College or Rutgers Honors ?
What’s the process to get merit financial aid for NMF and any scholarship awards?
Note that to the best of my knowledge, NMF by itself does not guarantee a full ride at NJIT, but I think that expecting tuition+room (but not necessarily board/food) is reasonable. If you did not get that, contact Admissions. Also note that Honors students might need to keep a 3.2 GPA to keep their scholarship.
Rutgers Honors Program is good, but not as good as Rutgers Honors College, since it might not come with any merit scholarship, and you don’t get to sleep in the fancy Honors dorm the first year.
Deciding between commuting to Rutgers and staying at the Honors College at NJIT is not easy. How much of a financial burden is the 10K/year difference to you?
By the way, did your kid apply to Rowan too? Did you apply out-of state such at UT Dallas or ASU/Barrett?
I am sorry to hear that your kid not apply to schools that could have provided a better deal considering his stats and NMF status.
If the 10K/year difference between NJIT Honors College and commuting to Rutgers is a financial burden, and if the sole reason for considering commuting to Rutgers is to save money on the room, then I think that it makes sense to pick NJIT (assuming that room will be free).
It is my opinion that getting a Master degree later on would be a bigger differentiator than NJIT vs Rutgers.
