My daughter got accepted to both NJIT and Ohio State University (Main Campus). At NJIT she git accepted into the Honors College, at which point they changed the scholarship to a full ride for both tuition and housing. So the final cost of attendance (CoA) is only the cost of food ~$4400.
On the other hand @ OSU she the total cost of attendance (CoA) after scholarship is going to be ~$33K after applying the scholarship grant (non-Ohio resident).
I have read numerous reviews about NJIT at various websites. On one hand the free ride is so enticing, on the other hand their reputation/ranking compared to OSU is quite different - OSU ranked much higher.
Similar issue, my child was offered the same free ride and I don’t think he is going to go there. You should absolutely go look at it. I forced my daughter to go look at a school she didn’t think she was interested in because of the scholarship they offered her and she ended up falling in love with the school and attending there. (Let me be clear I didn’t want her to go there since it was the furthest away school she had been accepted to however I told her if they make that kind of offer you have to at least look.) My son looked hard at NJIT but he really did not feel like it was the right place for him, (Even though it is a tough offer to turn down we are going to support his decision).
We did visit bit did not spend overnight there. My D did not like the NJIT campus much, and I am also mixed. We attended a session with CS professors. Only 2 professors really stood out.
At the time of this writing, we have also visited OSU and my D fell in love with OSU after the visit. She is heavily leaning towards OSU. NJIT offer is so sweet that it will continue to pinch missing on that, if she ends up at OSU
