NJIT vs Rutgers Newark vs Montclair

I am wondering which colleges is better. My major will be Computer Science.

NJIT- Better for Comp Sci & is better academically, but waitlisted. Also mostly male. Frequently interacts with RUNewark.
Rutgers Newark- Didn’t get into New Brunswick, is a good school academically, and I can take CS classes at NJIT. Diverse & has even male/female ratio. Frequently interacts with NJIT
Montclair- Nice area & large student body, but is worse academically.

How’s the campus life at NJIT & RUNewark?
How’s the social life at all 3 schools?
How’s the CS program at all of the schools?

You didn’t apply to Rowan?

No

That’s too bad. Did you compare recruiting at the three? Montclair is ABET accredited, so that’s good, and the area is very nice, maybe the best of all the NJ state schools. It is a good choice.

I applied for:
Drexel(Top Choice)
Hofstra(Accepted)
Montclair(Safety)
NJIT(Waitlist)
Quinnipiac(Accepted)
Rutgers NB(Denied)
Rutgers Newark
Temple
Wentworth Tech(Accepted)
William Paterson(Safety)(Accepted)

I was considering applying to TCNJ & Rowan also, but I would’ve gotten denied at TCNJ & I had other preferences.

NJIT & Montclair are ABET Accredited & have accelerated master’s. Rutgers Newark isn’t but I could go to NJIT’s classes & it’s ranked around the same as NJIT,Rutgers Camden, &Rowan academically.

Montclair is better than Newark and Camden in terms of academics. Montclair might as well be your best choice if you don’t get into NJIT.

What are your stats?

Did you get into Temple? I would wait until you have all of your acceptances.

I think Montclair would be best, though, since you’ve previously said Temple will be unaffordable.

3.3-3.4 GPA
1450 SAT
I’ll probably get in

Is Montclair’s academics better than Newark? I’ve read from multiple sites that RNewark’s comp sci classes are with NJIT as a joint program & every site states that RNewark’s academics are above Montclair’s, that they are a little below NJIT’s . Plus I can transfer to Rutgers NB after a year

The comp sci course layout for RU-N is very similar to other colleges. Plus I can transfer to New Brunswick after a year or two.

I got denied from Temple. How about you?

I think your best choices are Montclair (that’s what I’d pick, personally, if only for he change in scenery… beautiful campus, close to NYC, ABET accredited program) and NJIT (known for CS, but wouldn’t be as much a feeling of “going away to college”.)
I don’t think Montclair CS will be a cakewalk and I think you’d enjoy it more.

RU-N isn’t as good as the other two for your major or generally speaking.

Another for Montclair. Visit the Presby Iris gardens on the way to Tierney’s.

I’ll most likely go to Montclair if I don’t get accepted into NJIT

The thing that bothers me about RU-N is it’s REALLY a commuter school.

Were you asking me about my decision? I was rejected as well :frowning:

It worked out better for you anyway.

Yes.

Pick Montclair over RU-N :). Depending on your schedule (honors? AP?), apply to the Honors Program there.
Same thing at NJIT.

Another vote for Montclair.

I applied to the Honors program also at MSU, but I honestly don’t think I’ll get in. I didn’t get into William Paterson Honors but I got accepted to William Paterson

I wouldn’t get into NJIT Honors, I’m still waiting to see if I’ll be accepted or not(waitlisted)
