NM Tech for Petroleum Engineering???

I recently applied to NM Tech for Petroleum Engineering (as a transfer student for Spring 2014) and I was accepted. I'm waiting to hear back from CSM, LSU, WVU, UH, and OU. So I've been doing my HW on NM Tech and I'm fairly certain I would enjoy the campus with biking and rock climbing right next door. So campus life is not a worry. My worry is what is their Petroleum Engineering program's reputation is like? I was checking the professors' salaries for the department http://www.riograndefoundation.org/downloads/rgf_pr_nmt.pdf and they seem to be very low for such a high paying field, it makes me wonder how good they are. NM tech is high on my list because of the low cost, OU, WVU, and LSU would be good too as they are in my price range but I worry since they are such large schools that their programs may be over saturated and difficult to get a leg up on other people seeing as I'll be a transfer. I hear CSM is stellar and I'd love to attend, but I can only even think about it if I can get a large sum of scholarships to attend there.

Side note it seems like I will be a sophomore when I transfer to these schools.

You will be able to achieve your career goals at any of those schools. All of them are pretty solid.

At this point, you should choose based on which school fits your personality and interests the best. If you enjoy the outdoors, NM Tech is pretty spectacular… personally, I would choose it over CSM anyday. I’m kind of a desert rat though!

Thank you for the response!
I am curious about my internship possibilities as well. I have a 3.88 GPA and worked at an asphalt plant for 3 years. Do you think that might give me a leg up on other people applying for internships that came straight from high school, with a current GPA similar or lower then mine?

Just get those internships and maintain a high GPA. After a few years of working in the industry after graduation no one will care what university you graduated from so you and someone from CSM or TAMU will have equal opportunities.
