if you guys were NMF, did it say "NMF award" (or presidential award) on your financial aid?!!?? it doesnt show up on mine.

right now, im thinking that the NMF money was included in my "University Grant." But then, when i read the lil caption for the university grant, it says it's only "need-based aid". so....

is it going to update later? or is this my final package? im really considering SC, but the money is a MAJOR factor in my decision. thanks for your help in advance :)

Depends when you sent in your first choice report to NM. Everyone who sent it in before March 1st was received by USC in the first wave, and from then on NM only says they send them out in later waves, periodically. If you received the NMF award, it should say Presidential something, at least that’s what I would think.

I think University Grant is just a little incentive that has nothing to do with NMF, although many NMF do receive it.

Did you designate USC as your FIRST CHOICE? I suggest you call National Merit Corp. in Evanston, Ill. to make sure they received your paper work. Some times the mail slips up.

i had it designated before i was a finalist; the letter that came (to say that ive been chosen as a finalist) states that my first choice school is USC already.

i didnt get the Presidential Scholarship listed on the letter either. BUT I called the national merit corporation and they confirmed I was a finalist (met deadlines, etc. w/USC as my top choice). They even gave me the NMF roster page number I was on that they sent to USC. NM also told me to call a specific phone number to speak with a USC representative. Called that number, and the administrator double checked the roster USC received from NMC. He said I was somehow overlooked for the scholarship when letters were sent out. This kind man then proceeded to confirm my Presidential 1/2 tuition, and updated my financial aid on Oasis. This increased my total aid significantly (about $5,000, also reduced federal work study).

So if you’re worried, try calling NM and then USC to confirm you are a finalist and receive the scholarship. It ended up being a simple misunderstanding between USC and NM for some reason. But hopefully, this helps. Best of luck and see you in the fall!

forgot to mention that the Presidential Scholarship is NOT included in the University Grant. The grant will be reduced (mine from 31k to about 19k) but overall, you should benefit greatly from the scholarship.

^ wow thats awesome! if you dont mind sharing, what was your EFC? and did your loan amount change at all?

edit: just called them, and found out that the financial aid office doesnt have the full roster yet. he said expect an update to the package in 1-2 weeks (they’re busy right now…kinda felt bad for calling :))
