No, sorry - sent out today.

How do you know this?

We have snow day - anyone out there find out anything at school or in mail?

Just be patient … the letter will come to school this week and your home next week. Concentrate on your study.

Still haven’t got a rejection letter. Another blizzard! Schools closed at least next two days, maybe all week. Please post when you receive notification and good luck to all. Also, I think I need to change my first choice school. What is the timeframe for changing the one I did in the fall on the intial application?

^^^

You can do it now if you like…go to the NMCorp website, downloand the form, and then fax it in with your new selection.

@mom2collegekids: If we listed a first-choice school on our Finalist application and would not like to change that choice, do we still have to do anything?

Called NM today, in hopes they would let me know of kiddo’s official status (since the letters hit the mail to schools). D is heading out of town for college auditions the end of this week, and I wanted her to be able to update her resume…they will not tell you…bummer. Still, no rejection received, so maybe the letter will arrive at school before she leaves for her auditions??

Question: What if we don’t remember which school S selected as first choice? Is it possible to check through College Board? He has 2 strong possibilities (Michigan State and University of Michigan). MSU gives $ if listed as first choice, U of M does not. But, we were not sure if naming MSU as first choice would then exclude him from a NMF scholarship if he ended up enrolling at U of M. We can’t remember which school he wrote down! (Pathetic, I know…)

Call NMSC to ask them what school choice is in your file, I am sure they will let you know. Just give them your child name and his/her Semifinalist ID number.

They will not tell you whether your child is finalist or not. Either school will your child about the finalist status or wait for the mail that will send to your home address next week.

NMSC phone number 847-866-5100.

Thankyouforflying…if you already listed your intended first choice, you shouldn’t have to do anything, but you might want to make sure that the correct choice was indicated.

Michmom…I don’t think you can check online. So, you might just want to download the form, fill it out (perhaps include a note that you weren’t sure if the right school had been indicated) and then fax it in.

thankyouforflying could do the same thing.

Would anyone know if the notification for homeschoolers is sent on the 1st or the 8th?

^^^
Call NMCorp and ask…they’re very nice.

I’ve never heard of the appeal process. Does that mean that if my grades are good and my SAT scores are higher than my PSAT scores, I should be a finalist?

redhippo,

Unless you had some disciplinary action that would keep you from it.

*I’ve never heard of the appeal process. Does that mean that if my grades are good and my SAT scores are higher than my PSAT scores, I should be a finalist? *

What are you asking?

Are you asking if you can appeal if you DIDN’T make NMSF, but have high SAT and GPA? NO.

The appeal process is only for those who made NMSF, but were rejected for a low grade or two.

Homeschooling Mom - if you are the principal, it will be sent out on the first. We got ours today (in so cal).

Wait, if I haven’t received a rejection letter yet does that pretty much mean that I’m in the clear? My grades/SAT scores are good enough. The only thing that I’m really worried about is my disciplinary history. I was expelled from school a year ago, but I’m not sure if NMSC found out about that or not. Because I’m pretty sure that would be a complete deal breaker for them…

Your current school may not have reported that. That’s not that unusual. Sometimes new schools don’t see the reason for the expulsion as being justified. I had a friend whose son was expelled, and his new principal told the parents, “we never would have expelled for that reason. We wouldn’t have even given a suspension.” The expulsion was over a lame comment on Facebook (not bullying or anything like that). So, the expulsion was never reported when he applied to colleges and such.

If you had been rejected, you should have already been notified.

Is the 8th the day the letters are sent or the day we should expect to have letters by?
