NMF Scholarships: An Updated Compilation

This topic is way too valuable to be derailed by petty bickering, so please, please, please, just drop it. Please? Just make peace right now. There are other areas of CC where griping is the main activity. We can take the disagreements over there. Thank you.

Heh. Point taken.

For clarification purposes: Please refer to the guidelines at the top of each compilation repost when suggesting new contributions. If you refer to in-state tuition, say so explicitly since the assumed default is private/OOS.

Keilexandra: I agree with mantori. Your list is a very helpful and valuable resource for many NM students and families. Donā€™t let a few comments get to you. A big thank you from all of us who have referenced your list regularly. :)

^^Agree with pluto and mantori. This list in its previous, dinosaur and very outdated original form  was a great starting point for me last year. Its new model here is invaluable. Thanks, Keil! :)

i love that it has both private and public listing order.

I like the way it keeps a running update which includes all the changes/modifications that schools do. You only have to look at the last page to get the latest info. :)

Many of the older threads are useless because the amounts have changed, and you have to read thru 50 pages in hopes of finding one or two pieces of useful info.

Iā€™d like to see a list like this for non-NMF scholarships, too. The other, older threads are too cumbersome.

Thereā€™s a new thread for automatic scholarships for certain stats, which includes examples and links, but not many people have added to the thread. :(

^^^^^ do you know the link to the automatic scholarships page?

^^^

Itā€™s hereā€¦

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/financial-aid-scholarships/848226-important-links-automatic-guaranteed-merit-scholarships.html</a></p>

^^^ Thanks

and at the risk of having my head chewed off by people looking exclusively for full rides, I will pass on what I think is a pretty good deal, and that I consider an honorable mention:

Vanderbilt offers a minimum of 5000 annually to National Merit Finalists. If you qualify for any of their other merit scholarships (like the Cornelius Vanderbilt one, etc.) theyā€™ll give you 2000 MORE a year (but considering the Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholarship is HUGE, you still come out with way more than 5000 annually)

And for those of us who have no shot of winning their merit scholarships, they just give you 5000 annuallyā€¦Itā€™s more complicated than some of the other schools so you might want to check the link for their explanation [Merit Scholarship Programs](<a href=ā€œFrequently Asked Questions | Scholarships | Vanderbilt Universityā€>Frequently Asked Questions | Scholarships | Vanderbilt University)

^Thank you, I will add it to the next repost. Vanderbiltā€™s offer is slightly more generous than Macalesterā€™s, even.

Update with aforementioned plus ASU honorable mention from a letter I got in the mail.

From the American U website: " Universityā€‘sponsored National Merit Scholars: All finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program competition who indicate that American University is their first choice college by the established deadline will be considered for a scholarship of up to full tuition." No idea if this means itā€™s competitive. Elsewhere the website mentions that students have to designate AU as their first choice by Feb 1.
