Counselor in charge of prospective NMF at UMN says students can get the Gold Scholar OR Cyrus Northrop, but not both. Refused to say how many of these awards are given.

U of Minnesota gave 125 Gold Scholar awards for 2012 freshman, the UMN counselor tells me. They anticipate the number to be stable for the future, and though this is fewer than the # of NMF they get these days, she assures me there are many other scholarships kids can apply for also.

Thanks for the info!

Edit: I did not check if this scholarship is current.

Few LACs on the list, so I’d thought I’d mention Juniata in PA has a competitive scholarship offering full tuition for up to 4 students. An on-campus interview is required.
It sounds very competitive, but when you view the size of the school and the number of NMF enrolled per the NM website, I think it is less competitive than first blush.

This is not correct. Wesleyan University in Connecticut does not award merit aid.

The NMF scholarship is for Wesleyan College, a small women’s college in Macon, GA.

Sounds like confirmation of a letter I got two cycles ago:

Thanks for the spot. I apologize for causing any confusion.

Alternatively, the University of Connecticut offers a full scholarship for in-state residents.

Does anyone think that the most significant schools should be in bold the next time the list is updated?

If that is a good idea, would anyone like to choose the top ten most notable scholarships in terms of popularity, prestige, and value?

Thanks

JM: I just sent you a PM.

I think I sent a reply, thanks!

I think for this thread just sticking with the facts is better than trying to interject opinion by highlighting or ranking. However, it would be fun to have a separate opinion-oriented thread for discussing which are the best.

The award for WVU is $18K OOS and $6K in state + the one time $3500 award. This is approximately full tuition in either case.

Thanks BobWallace.

I did’t mean to pull a US News on you by ranking NM scholarships! You’re right that the compilation should be factual. I thought that highlighting the most popular and generous schools would point prospective semifinalists to where they should begin their search.

Any thoughts on how the list can be improved?

^^^Post a list of colleges that follows the same format as page 1 of this thread, with the addition of links that are posted under each college, but list all colleges in alphabetical order within each category. When anyone has new information about a college, they can copy the entire old list, paste it on the quick reply box, edit/ insert the updated information for the particular college, and hit the post quick reply. viola! an updated list!

trying to find scholarship information by having to look through page after page for information that is randomly posted is not the best use of this thread.

U of Alabama is no longer a full ride for 4 yrs, housing is now only included for freshman year.

When does the Bama change take effect and where did you learn this information?

Not sure if it will impact our family, but it appears like this could offset the loss of the reduction of the automatic NMF loss of housing
