I was just looking at the link to the Florida International University scholarship. It appears to include housing also, but not board, except maybe for freshmen, where board is included in housing, per cost page. Also includes parking. So it’s complicated, but anyway more than just tuition.

University of Nebraska- Lincoln, full tuition + $2,000, available to OOS, possibly competitive? Link:[Freshman Nonresident | Undergraduate Office of Admissions | University of Nebraska–Lincoln](http://admissions.unl.edu/cost-and-aid/scholarships/freshman-nonresident.aspx)

Is University of Southern California’s scholarship automatic or competitive? For some reason I thought it was competitive.

Southern Cal seems to give the half tuition automatically, but there are higher competitive awards.

Does anyone know if the Chancellor’s scholarship at University of Nebraska-Lincoln is guaranteed if you become a NMF? Or do you have to compete?

Anything for commended students?

Wayne State University, MI isn’t full ride for in-state. DS got letter today, the offer is $15,000 a yr plus one time $3,000 study abroad stipend.

Also you must be admitted by Nov. 16

D just received first NMF scholarship award letter. It isn’t presented as a total award exactly, just the NMF part, though maybe it is everything she’ll get, have to check. Admissions office hasn’t notified us of accepted status yet, funny. It’s the U of Minnesota-Twin Cities Gold Scholar Award, $10,000/year for 4 yrs. Another 2K/yr additional if she fills out a bit more paperwork. Also a small $1.7K one time research award, not sure if that part is NMF related. She needs to get to NMF status to collect. This is the scholarship I mentioned in posts 598/601/602 in this thread. Current tuition/fees = $13.5K/$18.7K IS/OOS, rmbd= $8K. N and S Dakota, Manitoba and WI (us!) pay in-state.

I don’t know of any major scholarships for commended students, but there are some smaller ones listed here http://www.guaranteed-/ (I can’t vouch for the accuracy of the site, you’d need to double check any information directly with the schools in question.)

starred out part of URL is scholarships dot com

it is automatic but you have to be accepted into the school first.

^ what is this in response to? the USC question?

The only automatic large scholarship for commended that I know of is included in the list - full tuition to Wright State, for Ohio residents only.

Thank you - that was entered incorrectly in the list - it will be corrected to read as you state.

(added U of Minnesota, made several updates/corrections)

For those wondering about Lincoln, I e-mailed them and they responded that:
"The only real requirement for the Chancellors (their full tuition scholarship) is for you to be a National Merit Finalist and you preference us as your top choice of school. "

The Nebraska application is very easy. No letters, no essays, no ECs or honors. You fill in a general HS course listing by categories- clicking on #credit hours taken in various categories, nothing like the SRARs some schools require. If you want to apply for honors program, or some special scholarships other than Chancellors, you need to fill out separate application which is more involved. They have a small book scholarship available, $250 per semester, for example.

D received acceptance letter from UNT. In reading their NMF website, I found the following:

Additional Information

Funding for this program is limited.

[UNT Meritorious Scholarship for National Merit Finalists | Student Financial Aid and Scholarships](http://financialaid.unt.edu/scholarships/university-funded-scholarships/unt-meritorious-scholarship-national-merit-finalists)

Does “Funding for this program is limited.” mean that she may not get the scholarship automatically if she is NMF? I will call tomorrow, but wondered if someone checked this specifically since it is on the first list of “Automatically awarded.”

Re: UNT, definitely check with the school. The “funding is limited” statement might just be a standard disclosure so that if there was some sort of run on the school they could eventually cut off the NMFs. I expect that everything will be fine for you. Don’t forget that you also need to fill out the FAFSA, although I was assured by the school that it is not part of the decision process. For some reason they just want the information.
