nmmi matriculation

thats correct. classes start tomorrow. i think id rather PT than go to class though...

Hey guys, if you get a chance, tell Philip Niche in November Troop to write or email home. We'd like to know he's alive. :)

Hopefully they'll find their "niche" :D couldn't resist...sure you've never heard that one b-4

Hehehe, yup. :) Actually it rhymes with witchy and a few other words...:)

What is the deal with computers at NMMI? Are they personal computers that the cadets took with them to NMMI or does NMMI give the cadets a school computer? My son is going to Marion and it seemed a waste to buy a new computer for Marion when he will need to buy one for West Point in ten months. Consequently, he is taking his old computer from home. Just curious...

NMMI requires that the cadets either buy a specific laptop from Dell or bring one that meets the same specifications. They have a special leasing program for the academy preps. They can lease a Dell for the year instead of buying, because it makes no sense to make them buy one for NMMI and then buy another one when they get to their respective academies. I don't know if MMI has the same program.

Didn't MMI tell your son what he should/can/cannot bring? NMMI sent a list of items to bring, optional items, and forbidden items (such as TV's, microwaves, etc).

WAMom...Marion gave the cadets a list of what they can and can't bring. A computer was not on either list. My son talked to the folks at Marion and was told that he can bring a computer from home. I will know more later in the week as the SAP cadets have a welcome party tomorrow night in Marion and report on Friday. Best of luck to all the folks at NMMI and hopefully we will se you all on R Day...

spider mom,

i think philip gave you the wrong address because there was a letter addressed to him with my box number on it. just thought id let you know. i think if you call the post office tey will give you the correct one.

Wow, what are the odds of it going to you? Were you able to get it to him? I'll check on the address. Thanks.

spidermom, i gave the letter to the post office lady and she said she would make sure it got to the right person. if i ever get a chance to speak with anyone from november ill ask them to tell your son to contact you.

Thanks, Astrodude. We got a great letter right after I posted to you, so I'm good to go.

Can someone please tell me who the NMMI supe and com is this year. Is it still the squid and turtle or did they find replacements?

the com is general geraci and the supe admiral elison

i was certain they would have at least gotten rid of Geraci. Either a lot changed or nobody wanted the position.

Why, what was so wrong with Geraci?

if its like last year you will see as the year goes on. To start off we didnt have a blue book (the big binder) untill second semester so we didnt know any rules or regs or anything. He took away late lights which meant we had to be in bed (im guessing like you have to know) at ten oclock so we could get our required 8 hours of sleep. Whenever one of his friends came for some reason we would have to give them a parade and with every parade goes an inspection so we were having at least two inspection a month for the first couple months. Because of some stupid highschool kids who threw fruit around we could not have fruit in the mess hall so we were stuck with the crappy mexican food we got everyday. Random drill on Wednesday morning when the ground is frozen. Stupid corps runs around the parade field at a pace slower then stagnant water. I could go on for a while but I have got work to do. (sorry for any typos im typin kinda fast)

cadet for 5,

some of the older cadets told us about how much it sucked last year. they said this year they are trying very hard to make it better. we still have drill on wednesday morning which we really hate. how many times do you really need to practice right shoulder arms?! anyways, we have real blue BOOKS this year. i saw the old binders and i see what your saying about them. so far it looks like its going to be a good year though and most people have high morale. how was beast?

Well, I've only been here for about three weeks now, but already I'm getting sick of the Mexican food. I realize that all the cooks are Mexican but would it hurt to have some variety? I mean how many many variations of tacos and burritos can one eat in a year?

Hmm...thankfully none of the Com's friends decided to show up this early in the year. I hope we have as few parades and inspections as possible. Still, 'popping to' to privates and other little kids wears on you after awhile. Dang...R-Day can't come fast enough.

cadetfor5, how are you liking West Point so far?

hahahaha

"fruit will no longer be served in the mess hall because it is being thrown around campus"

nmmi's problem is that it is completely devoid of any sort of common sense.

its not bad. a lot of BS to put up with but once you get the system down its not to bad. It goes by quick, almost done with 2 weeks of classes and labor day weekend is next weekend so ill be going home. It really all depends on the company and how chill they are. My companys right in the middle so its not bad. Did they reintegrate college and highschool troops at nmmi?
