nmmi matriculation

Yeah they integrated...unfortunately.

Still, everything is pretty easy now and things seem to have slowed down somewhat around NMMI. For those who have already gone through NMMI, what kind of advice would you want to give to someone just starting out?

Also, what do you think is the biggest improvement from NMMI to West Point? (probably everything, but please give us future plebes some specific things to look forward to) Also, did your experiences at NMMI help out during Beast and other aspects of plebe year?

NO! the integration is exactly what the corps needs, and most people don't realize it. Let me explain it to you real quick:

The high schoolers are away from their parents for a whole year...the Corps and the school essentially become their parents and their role models. Without the integrated troops, the high school cadets don't get any of that mentorship, and they run rampant. The college kids keep the high school kids in line, and in turn the college kids realize the influence they have on the high schoolers and their behavior is better as well.

Segregating the high school and college troops was the worst thing NMMI ever did, because it took all its informal sanctions away.

It still sucks to be told to go to sleep by a 14 year old private...

Though i do see what your saying, 7.

my squad leader at mmi is a high school senior and no one has had any problems with anyone so far

its weird being told what to do by kids that dont even have their drivers license but it teaches you humilty, so get over it.

think of what 35-year-old army guys go through when they get ordered around by fresh-out-of-the-academy 23-year-old LTs....

or fresh out of the early commissioning program 19 year old LT's

hahahaha oh, ECP. oh man.

Hi everyone. I'm new to this internet chat/posting stuff but here goes. My son is in his first year at NMMI as a high school sophmore. BTW he loves NMMI!!! He thinks he'd like to go to one of the service academies and is leaning to the Air Force Academy. I'm wondering if the service academies in general and the Air Force Academy in particular would look favorably on applicants that have graduated from a military high school? His grades are pretty average so far. If his past performance is any indication he'll probably graduate with a 3.00 GPA (nothing to write home about). I know there are other criteria such as sports, non-sport activities, SAT or ACT scores along with GPA and interviews. I'm hoping a military high school education is a qualitative plus that may mitigate an average GPA. Your thoughts???

Thanks

I know a nmmi kid. He is a bit on the whole 'I am better than you cause I went to nmmi attitude side' but he is a very cool kid overall. he always tells us the crazy things you nmmi guys do. Not to mention the hazing is off the walls.

whats his name

ahh yes good ole nmmi any one in Charlie troop?

There are definatly advantages to going to NMMI in high school if you want to go to an academy, but I wouldn’t trade my high school experience for the world.

For you guys at NMMI, hang in there. I was a CDT 2001something and I hated every minute of it, then I got into West Point, and everything seemed a thousand times better plebe year. As much as I hate NMMI and New Mexico in general and regard that year as the worst in my life, I am so glad to have had the experience and honestly say there's no way I would have graduated from the Academy without it. Han in there, it will all be okay in the end, and then, one day, you too can come to Ft. Benning and go through the joys of IOBC, IBOLC, BOLC III, or whatever they finally decide to call the course...
