NMS cutoff predictions for class of 2018

Dudes:

  1. There must be a book with every SF’s name (by state and then by school) because there are press releases of such. For instance, in MN the Star-Tribune lists every SF in the state by school.

  2. GC’s know the cut-off for the state. There must be another book. Probably listing cut-off by state for every state.

@DavidPuddy two ways for the GC to know the cut. One I think it’s in the book (yes I am obessed with that book) or he had students with 215 that where not on the list but kids that had 216 that were on the list. Not hard at all when you have the info.

I think I do remember seeing something about cuts being added last year, but I can verify that the book from class of 2015 (gosh, now 3 years ago, I think I recently said 2!) did NOT have cut scores listed. But GC’s at larger schools can certainly figure things out if they have kids on the cusp.

@3scoutsmom
What I can say is this: My sons GC would NOT have known the SIs for kids, especially those not making the cut, without being told that info. So I am curious like you if that book has it.

There. Are. Two. Books.

Edit: @DavidPuddy the GC’s also know the SI’s for all the kids.

Sorry @JBStillFlying, I’m not a regular any more, and only saw a few recent posts. Just trying to add info that I have.

In MO: our GC says she can’t share specific cut-off info, but that it went up a little bit since last year.

Anecdotes we heard today was ‘one’ book received. If the Alabama GC had the cut off score plainly listed for them, it is in that one book. If not, they inferred it. I am just trying to determine which of the two it is…

And Art must have felt his ears burning, because several new comments were just added to the blog post.

For what it’s worth, the book I have looks EXACTLY like the press releases from those states that share (FL). PA is not so kind.

@PAMom21 no problem. Just trying to clarify for everyone. There are two books and this is an easy conclusion based on what we know. Your information (which you also stated last year), and evidence that there must be a book with SI’s that is NOT the same book that you have. Ergo.

When does the second book get delivered?

Except, @JBStillFlying, that we have a mom who saw the envelope being opened just today and there was just one book in it, so we can’t say that there must be two books.

@DavidPuddy She said the cutoff was 216 I guess based upon the list of students. I am not sure if the letter to school explicitly list 216 as cut off though. She was messaging me from dentist office but sid she would send letter home tomorrow. Will post more details if they are provided.

@DavidPuddy probably at the same time.

Ergo, see the posts above describing only one book delivered today.

I am not saying it is fact, but anecdotal evidence shows, this year, one book delivered with the information to schools. That’s all…

@JBStillFlying there is a booklet that principals receive of every NMSF. I have seen one in the past.

“Except, @JBStillFlying, that we have a mom who saw the envelope being opened just today and there was just one book in it, so we can’t say that there must be two books.”

@Traveler98 - it can easily come as a separate package specifically for school admin.

@amyandscott - yes, that must be correct. But we know from the past that 1) there is cut-off info. by state available out there somewhere because it’s been posted on CC; and 2) it’s not in the booklet that lists every NMSF. Therefore it must be in a different book or a different list of some kind.

More specifically, I think we had a Mom watch a counselor open TWO envelopes: one with the book, the other with the letters. That is what I recall from an hour ago…but a lot has happened since then…
