So well said, @HeliMom74 in post #1356. I am feeling those same mixed emotions, including sadness for those who did not make this “cut” but are just as deserving as my own kid. It just doesn’t feel right. But I love how you phrased your feelings and add mine to that list. Well said!
Any other frustrated Texans out there ? No word from our GC yet. Saw 220 posted as the lowest score qualifying so far and my Daughter has a 223 so I think she’s safe but would love to celebrate with some security !
signed a potential GC stalker
We’re waiting on pins and needles for announcement from our counselor too. Why is Texas so slow ?!?!?!?
Yes we are in the same situation. Our GC told us yesterday they have not seen it yet. I wish national merit just uses email and releases it directly to students so it is efficient :). My son has 221, so we thought we were on the bubble of not making it this year, but from all the comments above he seemed to have made it although seeing official word gives a sense of closure.
RE: Oregon test scores - I’d love to be wrong, but our school principal said DS was not on the list, and scored 221.
@Phlipper , check your kid’s backpack, maybe you’ll find a half crumpled letter in there …
Good news is, if you’ve got a valid 223 you are already confirmed fine.
@tandrsmom I still think there could have been a misunderstanding or mistake. OR made a big jump last year, given where in the distribution it was, so another big jump is hard to believe. Maybe the principal missed a page or maybe he/she just missed the name. Or maybe the principle misunderstood what you were asking or maybe they are messing with you. It is possible that OR jumped to 222 but hard to believe.
Yesterday I emailed S’s GC to let her know that NMSF letters were coming out and to please, please let us know if S gets one. She said she was so excited, would keep an eye out, etc.
So just now my email dings, it’s from the GC and the subject is “NMSF letters might come out today or tomorrow!”, which is the same subject I used when I emailed her yesterday so this is clearly a reply to my NMSF email. We already know he’s above the cutoff, but official notification means something, and I’m ready with my end zone dance when I click on that email…
Annnnd, it’s about a schedule change. /headdesk
No court in the land would convict me, right??
Washington (the state) is greater than 221 according to Art… I have a 226 so I *should * be safe but that’s still scary news.
@snowfairy137 Everyone 223 and above is safe, so you’re good. Official notification still means something, though, so I empathize with your wait.
@DiotimaDM yeah hopefully! I got a 221 last year which would have qualified had I been a junior and I’m so glad now that I improved.
Exhale, finally…GC let DS know today that he made it (219 SI in KY). NOW I feel better!!!
219 KY already on the board I know, but somehow I needed it confirmed.
@LOUKYDAD I’m going to change your name to luckydad! Just kidding. That’s great news! Congrats!
Anyone with a 218 in Ohio hear anything by chance? I am starting to think we missed it by one.
@Northernwolf Thanks for keeping us updated in MI. I also have a 218 and am anxiously waiting for news.
@bradsmom, this was posted on the qualifying score thread:
OH>217 (Principal)
(I spoke to him about it and learned that I did not make it. My SI is 217.)
Don’t give up hope yet!
According to Art, TX is actually 221, not 220.
Thanks @suzy100 !
@DiotimaDM, Please note that Art has updated TX number to be = 221 (not <=220) based on input from a CC who confirmed that two of his students with 221 did make NMSF but one with 220 did not. If this is true, then Art nailed another one!
I enjoyed the conversation about “C” grades & moving on to NMF a few pages back. It brought me back to May when I had a mini panic attack worrying that my D18 has a semester “C” on her transcript for Calc BC & another “C” for the Calc BC lab.
I had to be talked down from the ledge by 3Scoutsmom; Bingewatcher; JBStillflying; and others. I’m happy to report that I’m recovered now & here’s another shoutout to those folks that helped me through that one.
We all seem to have strong opinions about how that process (of eliminating @1K NMSFs) to arrive at the right amount of NMFs actually works; but, I guess the only thing we might come to a consensus on is that none of us really knows the true formula.
I’m actually at peace with the whole “C” thing (right now), and I believe that my D is still very likely to make NMF because her overall record is outstanding (other than for that little grade glitch); but, I think I have this peaceful feeling mainly because we’re doing what we’re supposed to do & we already have another path planned out just in case I’m incorrect & she doesn’t make it for whatever reason.
I think those NMSC folks must sit in a little room each year while reading our CC posts on this matter and just have a howling good time watching many of us squirm. :))
