I’m way behind in the thread, but seeing news of OR being above a 221…???..!!! I’m with the other PP who thought 221 could be a misunderstanding. I’m also seeing several “missed by 1 point” PPs and I don’t even know what to say about that - except that it sucks and I’m really sorry. Your DCs will still have many options, and Commended is a great honor on its own, but I’m still sad and it still sucks.
@GoAskDad - it definitely stinks. Thank you for just saying that out right. I appreciate it. I am hoping my daughter will uses the miss as a motivating factor when she is writing for merit scholarships. I hope she digs a little deeper to pull something out somewhere!

My D got called down to the office today…she was worried even though she’s a rule follower. She said she sat wringing her hands until 2 other good kids came in that had made the commended cutoff in the spring. Out of the 8 in the spring only 3 (including my D) made it to semi-finalist. So excited! But now we sit and stress for the next step. She was told not to say anything until the official release date. At that time the school will do a big todo about it during chapel and have their names on the marquee. She was a 221 in Florida.
flsoccermom what do you know about UCF? I saw they give full rides for NMF
221 but I wanted to hear it with my own ears 
Either her school didn’t have any 220s or 221 is the cutoff in AZ. The others in her class were higher than 221.
@HeliMom74 I hope that is not the case. I had heard confirming SI for SAT is typically 205-210. Anyone have any info on confirming SAT SI? My son has a 1410 and SI of 210. Good grief.
@amyandscott I there with you hoping a 210 is good enough. 1450 SAT but SI is only 210
@amyandscott, your S should be able to take SAT up to and including the December 2017 test date, so even if his current score isn’t quite enough he still has multiple chances to improve it. Obviously not ideal if he was otherwise done with testing, but it’s definitely not over for him just because he may not currently have the confirming SAT score.
@Phlipper We have had quite a few kids from our area (Melbourne, FL) go to UCF including one of our NMF. Orlando is a great city with the beaches and gulf only and hour away either way. Large enough to do things but not so large that it is overwhelming. Harris Corporation built the Harris Engineering Center at UCF. Of course their hospitality program is one of the best in the nation…afterall we are the tourist capital of the world. We haven’t considered UCF since my D is wanting to go into meteorology.
Does anyone know if you have to use the SAT with essay or is SAT without essay okay to use to submit for SAT verifying score for finalist? We called national merit and they said SAT without essay should be okay but the person answer didn’t sound very sure because they used the word “should be okay” not definitely okay!! We haven’t even gotten our official letter yet but we think she if a NMSF and we are fretting over whether she needs to retake the SAT with essay. Her SAT SI score was 226 and should be good enough to meet criteria I think but she does not want to take the SAT again if she doesn’t have to!
