I am now a senior graduating in the class of 2011 and took my PSATs as a Junior in 2009.

I am trying to figure out whether I am "Recognized" or "Commended" and I'm not really sure of the difference.

My Selection Index does not have an asterik by it on the Score Report-- so does this mean I AM Commended or I am just being CONSIDERED for Commendation and I am just being recgonized?

Thanks for any help you can give!

PS: If it makes any difference, I am in Maryland and earned a score of 219.

You will get commended sometime. I have a similar score too but was short of the state’s cutoff by one point. The packet says you should get a recognition certificate around the end of September and early October, so I reckon you’ll receive one very soon. I have yet gotten one, btw

life sucks isn’t it! you are a semifinalist in most parts of the country. you’re commended. unfortunately, that does not , by itself, do much good with admissions or scholarships. of course, it only shows you have other good stats.

^ yes, it’s very disappointing, especially knowing that being a National Merit Finalist can guarantee me full rides in some of the in state schools I’m interested. Life moves on, however. I learn how to cope with disappointment during the process
