My son completed a form that was due May 1 for NMSF whereby he could select two colleges to notify that he would most likely be named NMSF. He received a letter from one of the colleges this week detailing what scholarships and programs were available for NMF, etc. The 2nd college he selected was USC. Should he eventually receive some information from USC regarding opportunities at the school for national merit?

Has anyone else started receiving info from colleges?

My son sent the letter and we haven't heard a thing from either school. It doesn't seem to make a difference to them, I guess.
Good luck to your son!

most schools do not care for that letter too much because there are 50,000ish kids who get it (i think thats the number). What some schools will really care for is if he becomes one of the several 1,000 finalists

Haha, I sent mine to Rice, and they sent me an e-mail back saying thanks and that they waved my application fee. :D

^ that's a nice touch! why don't all colleges do that???

haha dang i guess you gotta know which schools to send it to then because both of mine didnt respond at all!

It's hard to remember who we even picked, I think Vassar and Bard. We've received generic mailings, but nothing else.
