what does this status mean? If I get commended, but nothing further, am i still eligible for any scholarships (my selection index was 203, so im assuming nothing more than commended)

Hi! My d also got a 203 last year and was a commended student. No money but you do get 2 benefits. You can list it on your application as an academic honor. Colleges are aware that only the top 5% of students get that designation-- and in the spring you will get a notice asking your 2 top school choices. The college board ( or whatever org. administers the test) will pass the info to those two schools. It is somewhat helpful as those 2 schools know that you are seriously considering them as a top choice. It didn't help my daughter much as she was rejected by the 2 schools-but you never know-It can't hurt to let those college know of your interest.

Back in the dark ages, my being commended was enough to help get a scholarship at a second tier university. It wasn't a formal NM scholarship or even an automatic one like Oklahoma or some other schools offer finalists, but it was a very useful credential.

Most definitely something to be proud of, too.

Ooops! I think I gave you a little misinformation. The listing of the 2 top choice schools comes in the spring of 11th grade. You receive it before you get official notification re: Commended status. The only reason we expected it was because I had been on the website for NMSQT and it explained the process. I am sure alot of 11th graders got the letter-may not known to respond and didn't take advantage of the opportunity. There are benefits about being a little obsessive.

I still haven't gotten my certificate. School officials announced that I am commended but didn't give me a letter. Strange.
