I heard that it is possible to receive a merit scholarship if your PSAT score is high enough as a sophomore, but I was wondering if it was also possible to receive a scholarship by taking the ACT or the PLAN test, because I prefer the test to the SAT.

As others have said, it is the Junior year PSAT that counts. Sophomore score does not matter except for when a student is graduating a year early.

PLAN tests don’t count for anything in scholarships. Lots of schools give scholarships for good ACT scores. They are not usually as good as those for NMF though. At my daughter’s school the highest ACT scholarship was fairly generous but fell short of NMF by a few thousand a year.

You will get LOTS of mail from colleges with a good sophomore PSAT score…but not likely any scholarships. The JUNIOR year PSAT score, followed by a great SAT score could put you in NM contention…assuming that junior PSAT is high enough in tour state.
