@NewEngMTMom You did not have a non audition safety? It is still not too late to get one and there is great information here on CC about good ones.
It seems like many of the schools offer acceptance to their non-audition BA Theatre program when they send a rejection. We are also still waiting for a yes, and though we have not discussed it with S yet, I am thinking that the BA at his favorite school with the possible option to reaudition for the BFA/BM program is the direction we will go if he does not get a yes. I’d love to allow the gap year, but I’m having a hard time thinking about the waste of money in all these applications and audition fees.
@NewEngMTMom Take a look at Seton Hill - a well regarded program outside Pittsburgh with great facilities, rolling admissions, and two audition dates in April
@NewEngMom If you can access Acceptd, you can do a search for schools that have audition dates remaining. I’ll do a cursory search for you and report back what i find.
If you are still interested in adding schools Plymouth State University is still accepting applications, and has upcoming audition days. Keene State College is also accepting applications, and while they do not have a Musical Theatre major, they do musicals and offer training. University of Mary Washington is also still accepting applications, and does not require an audition, as is Emory and Henry (although it may be late to audition… if the school is of interest, worth checking).
Lipscomb University in Nashville also still has audition dates available. Small Christian college with MT BFA and lots of great opportunities to network in the Nashville community.
Have you looked at Columbia College Chicago? I don’t think it’s too late there. Best of luck!
Here’s a list from years past that you could research…

Dean College in Mass is still accepting I think. They send my daughter emails every day.
I don’t know if you applied to UArts, but @collegemom2000 posted that they are cancelling their audition on 3/17. Would that work for you?
HUGS.
Yes! We are cancelling D’s audition at UArts if it isn’t too late to apply.
MTMOM17. We just got back from U of Arts auditions. Not at all a good fit for my D, but she didn’t get a callback anyway, so I think they already saw it wasn’t right for her.
Ok, I’m sorry to hear that @NewEngMTMom.
Don’t give up hope! XOXO
@NewEngMTMom My D went through this brutal process a year ago. As March dragged on and the rejections came in, we began to talk about a gap year if she just wasn’t happy with her options. Like others on this forum, I have witnessed many GREAT outcomes from a gap year. It felt like the one thing we could control, that decision to take the year to regroup. That said, you have schools left to hear from, so you might not need the backup plan at all. (My D got her dream yes on March 31.) I’d also like to add my endorsement of Columbia College Chicago. It’s a WONDERFUL school. We know many people there who are beyond happy, and they attract a lot of top Chicago theater folks as faculty. I’d check it out if you haven’t already.
@NewEngMTMom - did you say your D is currently on a gap year? It so, did she go through the process last year as well?
@notforthefaintofheart the gap year was kind of an accident. She did her senior year of high school at a local community college. We were thinking that she could do a year or two there and than transfer to a more expensive program. Our guidance department is terrible. We have really been stumbling through this on our own and it seems like every time we found out a critical piece of information about the whole process it was just a little too late. So we ended up with a year of her working, taking more lessons, and trying to prepare auditions. We met with 3 of her private instructors in voice and acting who (at the time) we felt gave us good advice about the process. They all said she had what it takes. Another mentor of hers, a former Broadway performer, also emphatically encouraged her to go for this. The gap year was necessary because she just needed the time to prepare auditions. I feel now, that her teachers, although they are very good teachers and have supported lots of students through this process, really weren’t our best guides through the process. In general, their students come from big school systems, somewhat more affluent communities. I’m sure they didn’t realize that a student from a cash strapped, bare bones school system, graduating 70 kids per year needed a lot more guidance because her school wouldn’t provide it.
I would strongly suggest looking at Western Kentucky University. My daughter is graduating this year with her BFA in Musical Theatre. The program is an audition later (3rd semester); however, you immediately start taking classes for the BFA the 1st semester. Look for my posts from previous years about the program. My daughter’s voice teacher was just awarded the prestigious Van L. Lawrence Fellowship award. If you want more information, let me know.
The 2014/2015 audition season was not kind to my daughter … hell, she broke her foot at one of her first auditions. (Not even kidding. Not even a little.)
At about this time 3 years ago she had lots of no’s and one maybe/hold. With the help of lots of parents on this board, we (and I say “we” because let’s be honest, MT BFA auditions take a village … amirite?) regrouped, added some late auditions and got it done. She ended up falling in love with a school she auditioned at on March 15, 2015 (I looked it up … my memory ain’t that great!) and is currently a junior and LOVING Nebraska Wesleyan.
It is definitely not too late … there was a good list of schools several posts back that are still auditioning.
@NewEngMom - a few programs that appear to still be auditioning for MT. Best to double check with the schools!
Manhattanville BFA MT
Western Carolina BFA MT
Western Michigan BFA MT
U Alabama Birmingham BFA MT
Belmont BFA BM MT
Hartt BFA MT
Ohio Northern BFA MT
Nebraska Wesleyan BFA MT
Drake BFA MT
LIU Post BFA MT
U South Dakota BFA MT
Abilene Christian U BFA MT
U West Florida BFA MT
I really hope this helps. BAL!!!
I think SUNY Fredonia may still be accepting applications as it has one more audition date for MT left. It’s a nice program, collaborative (at least the tech program in which my son is a student, is collaborative). The school also has a non-auditioned theater BA which allows students one chance to audition for the BFA (not sure if MT or just acting, because we are tech, but check).
