No advantage to electronic filing for IDOC?

I assumed (I know- don’t do that) that electronically filing your taxes means that IDOC can retrieve them right from the government but when I go into IDOC they are asking me to upload files so I would still need to scan and upload them. Am I missing something or does filing electronically not help for IDOC?

No, IDOC does not (and cannot) obtain your tax file directly from the IRS, even if you file your taxes electronically. IDOC is not a government entity.

When we filed our 1040 electronically, the IRS generated a PDF. I uploaded that to IDOC. It was the simplest part of the process, especially with all those schedules.

WasatchWriter- Did you get that sent to you automatically sent to your email or did you need to request it from the IRS?

My tax software does it.

There’s a print return button. Clicking that should open the return in a PDF viewer (which one depends on your configuration). There you should have the option to save as a PDF document.

@WasatchWriter did you not have to sign it? I ran into trouble with that with some schools. Had to print, sign and scan the last page.

as OHMomd says, you’ll have to sign it and scan that page in to a new pdf file.

And fyi - IDOC is MUCH better now that they have electronic uploading (and this year they’re even quite quick with their processing!). You used to have to print it up and physically mail it in.
