No Alumni Interview Contact Yet

I submitted my app in mid December and I have not heard from an alumni interviewer.
How long should I wait before I contact the college?

you may not receive an interview, unfortunately whether or not you receive on is based completely on chance, I haven’t received an invitation either.

I haven’t got one yet either.

Same here no interview request yet

Yeah, I haven’t received one either. Don’t worry about it…it’s probably just due to availability issues but it won’t count against you in the admission process.

Just wondering if anyone knows how late you can be contacted for an interview, or when you should assume you didn’t get one?

I live within half an hour to an hour of a ton of committees that are listed on Penn’s site, so I thought I’d get one, but I imagine there are also a lot of kids applying to Penn in some of the more affluent areas around here, so maybe not

Has anybody seen any official information regarding how interviews are assigned to applicants? Sure, there’s speculation to say “it’s random” or “they weed out the crap applicants first” – but which of those theories is really true?

More than half of the people applying to Penn from my school have received interviews, but I haven’t. To be honest, it’s kind of starting to make me worry. I always thought I was one of the stronger applicants (2350 SAT, lots of ECs, amazing teacher recs, etc.), so I don’t understand why some people are getting interviews but I’m not. The same thing has happened with Princeton and Columbia so far – a few people have had interviews but I haven’t. Am I just extremely unlucky, or did I get auto-rejected before the interview stage? D: I don’t know if I should be worrying or not…

This isn’t really definitive, but it does show that alumni interviews are offered through alumni associations, not Penn itself:

[Penn Admissions: Interviews](http://www.admissionsug.upenn.edu/applying/interviews.php)

I’m guessing if you kept looking at the admissions sites of similar schools you’d find your answer, but if they really weed out applicants before giving them to alumni, I highly doubt they’d eliminate so many applicants to the point where someone with a 2350 and good Ecs/recs etc. is left out.

^^asdfo98…who knows, maybe you are one of the stronger applicants, and that’s why they don’t feel the need to interview you. There’s a logic in that thinking too, isn’t there?

Usually they are done by January / february… So if march rolls around… Then oh well. Haha.

Ps. I haven’t had 1 either.

I think it’s on a first come, first serve basis as people complete their applications, but I haven’t seen that officially anywhere.

^ I don’t think so, OP posted his app in mid-december, which, percentage-wise, is much earlier than most of the crowd.

That’s true, but it depends largely on his region, like when the other applicants in that region applied and the number of interviewers available.

No interview either, but I’m not sure why. You’re not the only one who hasn’t been granted an interviewer.

Sigh… none for me.

if you haven’t received any interviews at all while your peers at your high school have for multiple colleges, you might want to make sure your application is complete?
just a thought.

Are you saying I might not get an interview because Penn is still “missing” my counselor recommendation?

confused: that’s bad advice, plain and simple. The fact is not all applicants get matched w/interviews due to the sheer numbers. IF anything were incomplete, don’t you think UPenn would contact the student or school? C’mon. You’re adding to paranoia here.

Hume: ignore confused11’s advice.

to everyone else worried about your relative strength of application based on your having/not having an interview yet. Here’s how the SSC’s do it. When applications are processed (checked for completeness, not any examination or evaluation of the contents), lists are generated which contain your contact info. These are sent to the SSC coordinators who then assign them to his/her volunteers – usually based by geographic distribution. You could be a zero chancer or a shoo-in – you’re treated the same since no human eyes have probably even read a single word in your application by the time the lists are generated. There’re too many applicants and too little time so any pre-screening is impossible.

Because your name is given to random alumni, your buddy may get a call right away, and you might get a call in four weeks – it’s dependent on the interviewers. Again, this is no indication of your relative chances of getting in.

And, your name might be on a list that’s so long that the area alumni corps just can’t get around to you. Again, this is no indication of your relative chances of getting in.

For me, I was only interviewed at half the Ivies I applied but got into all of them. Hope this helps.

I was accepted ED this year, and i never received an interview. I applied in septemeber, which is about two months earlier than the deadline, and my SAT, for all it’s worth, was a 2160. it has nothing to do with you scores or when you apply. i was nervous when I learned I wash getting an interview, and I understand how you feel. seriously though, it’s not a big deal. don’t fret, it won’t affect your decision. I felt like posting because I was in your position and it’s a nerve-wracking situation to be in. it’s all about availabity in your region. nothing else. chill and relax bro

Thanks to all who provided their input on this. I’m now much less worried about not having received a Penn/Pton/Columbia interview yet! And today’s Harvard interview went great :D
