I’m going into my senior year in September, and am currently selecting my class schedule. This year (junior year), I took 4 APs and will be taking 6 AP exams come May. However, none of them are AP sciences. I originally wanted to sign up for AP Environmental Science in my senior year, along with four other AP classes, but am worried that that will look too “easy”. I am definitely a high-achieving student with a high GPA and class rank, but the sciences take the most effort for me to master.
My main worry is that with college apps and tennis season in the fall (which will mean that I won’t come home until 7pm or later most days), I won’t be able to handle AP Physics C or AP Chemistry (which are the two AP sciences I am deliberating between. I took Chemistry Honors in my sophomore year and am currently taking Physics Honors and doing well in both. I am also taking Calculus BC, which I heard is helpful for AP Physics C, but I still hear that it’s one of the hardest AP classes. As for AP Chem, I tried to take it in the beginning of this year but legitimately failed the first test and dropped the class, seeing as it would have plummeted my grade. My school does not offer AP Physics 1 or B, unfortunately. I really don’t enjoy the sciences that much and probably won’t be applying to an engineering school, but I can probably muster up some motivation to push through one of the classes if need be. I just don’t want to be burnt out! I
s it necessary to take an AP Science if I’m aiming at a top college (Ivies, top 20) to be competitive? Thanks!
