No appeal for BU?

I just checked my status and I got rejected.
BU is supposedly my target school and I really wanna go there
Is appeal only for publics? Can i really not appeal to BU?
at least when i was on there site i didnt see anything related…
I’m so devastated I love BU…

I’m in the same boat as you, rejected.

I’ve never heard of appealing decisions public or private. Just accept it for what it is and move on. Everything happens for a reason

I got waitlisted and it was a complete safety for me :frowning:
I’m not sure we can do anything…

Maybe that attitude came across in your essays.

I’m not even gonna lie to myself and say that’s impossible. While I doubt that’s the case with my essay perhaps they did see a lack of interest on my part.
I’m just so upset, BU was my top school if i didn’t get into NYU and now that’s gone :(

Uhm just putting it out there
you can appeal for publics
UCs, UW, Ullinois
i guess just not public then.
In my essays I really showed my interest and said it was my top school and im pretty sure it came cross to the admission officers cuz I did a lot of research on the program i wanna study at and i talked about them in one of my supplement essays.
Same as masala I’m aiming for BU and NYU, now that im rejected, i dont think im gonna get into NYU anymore…

oops i meant i guess just not privates then

This has made me incredibly nervous for NYU, especially cuz I applied to Stern
I guess I’ll just go to Northeastern now, at least I have some significant merit money from them so I won’t go bankrupt haha

i don’t think that appeal letters are ever NOT allowed. i was waitlisted at BU and i wanted to go so i sent in a letter of interest after being informed. after talking to someone else who was waitlisted at my high school who didn’t send in such a letter, i was given my acceptance a week or 2 earlier than my peer. i don’t know if it was luck or because of the letter, but i figured it didn’t hurt

Did you get financial aid when accepted off the waitlist?

I’m appealing. I found out that my high school sent out the wrong midyears for me, and I think that truly went against me since it said I had a D+ (I actually had a B for the quarter). I’m emailing my admissions representative and explaining to her my situation since I’m pretty sure this is a special case. I’m also retaking the ACTs again in the next three weeks. I’m having loads of recommnedations being sent including from my employers and teacher, and I am having my school write a letter saying its their fault for this mix up. I am a minority too so hopefully that helps.

I really don’t think it matters if the school is public or private. I got rejected from University of Pittsburgh which was a safety school for me and that’s public, because of my math SAT score, and ended up getting accepted after I did a whole appeal. Unless they say they have a strict no appeal policy, you can appeal anywhere you want. For BU, if your stats are good and you’re on waitlist, they’re prob just testing you to see how interested you are because people these days apply to 10 schools and they don’t know if they’re one you’re actually interested in going to. If you’re rejected, I don’t know how much time you’ll have to get it all together in 1 month. Pitt had rolling admission so I had lots of time to retake stuff, but obviously that won’t be an issue for anyone to retake SATs and ACTs. Just send an appeal letter to the board of admission, and try to find someone on the admissions committee who will be by your side and help you along (if they are willing)–that’s what I did for Pitt. Inform them of your interest if you want to go there and any awards you’ve won, 2nd semester grades when they come in, or even send them like a really good essay you’ve written in school that you got an A on.

Thank you so much for the advice! I really appreciate it, I’m just really nervous that I won’t be able to get in to my dream school. NOTHING WILL STOP ME!

@adelerose: i didn’t get any fin aid but i think it’s cuz i messed up pretty badly in high school. i can tell you that fin aid is given on what’s left when you’re accepted but this also depends on your own personal financial situation. if they don’t give you enough if you get accepted off the waitlist, you may want to appeal but remember you’re getting the butt of the funds so don’t get your hopes up. keep your options open.

@NDHingMA i think you really should be fine. A similar happened at Pitt where someone with like a 2200 and good grades was rejected because they mixed up her scores or something and sent in a 1700 or something really low, and the guy/girl reached out and figured out what happened, and they were accepted with honors and big scholarship. This kind of stuff DOES happen (rarely), but they will recognize it and fix it. Make sure you send in good second semester grades and maybe do send in a really good essay as proof of your good grade. What was the class that they messed up your grade in? Have your teacher for that class write you a recommendation. That’s what I did when I got rejected for my math score–I worked really hard and got an A, and had my teacher write a recommendation. I have to say that that probably helped me like 40% more with chances because that’s real proof that you’re a good student when they hear from the teacher in that class that your school messed up your grade in.

I emailed them and they said that admissions decisions are all final. If you want to review your decision to call admissions directly. :</p>

What if you are waitlisted? I was waitlisted and BU was one of my top choices

Not to kill any hopes but I heard that of the waitlist last year only 4 people were admitted. I know they said not to appeal but I did anyways. Maybe you can try that? It could either higher your chances, hopefully not lower them. I was rejected so even if I appeal theres nothing they can take away from me, its just a slim chance I decided to take.
