No AP's Junior Year?

I was just wondering about what you guys and colleges think about taking no AP's in Junior year. I don't plan on going to Ivy Leagues/UC Berkeley, but at the same time, I do not want to present myself as a slacker.

All the AP's I want take are either not offered at my school, I cannot take till senior year, or I won't be at the level to take them till senior year.
For example, WHAP, MEHAP, Micro/Macroeconomics, and Psychology are not offered.
AP Stat, Calc BC, AP Gov, Studio Art, Lit, and Physics are only available to seniors, or I am going to take a class for it next year which will allow me to be more ready for the AP class later on.
APUSH, AP Bio, AP Chem, APLAC are the only ones offered to me at the moment, but I honestly don't think I could handle the rigor of APUSH (and I never liked US History that much anyways), I struggle with timed writing A LOT, I never want to go back to Chem, and I can only take AP Bio or Physics Honors (I choose Physics as it interests me a lot more). I just do not want to take a AP class for the sake of college apps.

Also, what would you say about self studying or taking Community College Courses for the AP's that are not available to me? Will colleges perceive this the same way? You don't take the AP exam after taking the actual college course...am I correct?

Well, from what I’ve read on here, UC’s calculate your GPA based on your sophomore and junior year. So choose wisely.

I say don’t sell yourself short. If you think those AP’s are too tough in your junior year, you probably shouldn’t go to an ivy or UC-B.

^He/she said that he doesn’t plan on going to Ivy’s or UC Berkeley.

Sorry. I skimmed.

I would still say take the AP’s

Ya, you should take them. If you are not looking into applying to competitive schools, then you really have nothing to lose.

When you ask about how colleges will perceive you… It’s tough for anyone to tell you that unless you mention which colleges you’re interested in. For some schools, no AP classes your junior year would almost be a dealbreaker, and for others, it won’t matter.

I would think that community classes are just as good as APs, and self-studying for an AP exam and doing well on it is quite impressive.

Also, this is a legitimate “college admissions” question, so you can probably get better answers by posting it in the “colllege admissions” forum :).

Thanks, I’ll do that!
