Can you get into a top college without any awards or accomplishments?

What do you consider top? I have ECs and all that but no rewards and I got into #24 LAC. Not an Ivy, but meh.

I'm assuming that if the other parts of your application are strong, it doesn't matter. It's possible to have amazing ECs without winning anything for them.

lol, "without any accomplishments."

how is that funny..?

It's funny because you sell yourself so short.

And yes you can, I got into #3 LAC w/o any awards

but what about colleges like WashU, USC or Northwestern?

don't they value these areas?

Well, I'm sure they do, but does not winning some meaningless "best Latin scholar as determined by your school" really have that big of an effect? I doubt it. I'm in a similar position: I doubt I'll win any awards, yet I otherwise have a pretty decent application. We'll see how it turns out.

I have heard USC values Boys and Girls State. Also, they value being the valedictorian, president of clubs, etc.

I was accepted by USC, but I chose to go to another university. By the way, Northwestern seems to be more test score based than USC. My scores were lower than their average, thus I was rejected by them. My former language arts teacher was an alumnus of Northwestern and she had around 1300/1400.

haha like you have grades and scores and nothing else? that would be a little detrimental to your application. but it depends. no awards as in no national/international awards? cuz that's what CC views as "Awards"^^. lol.

You can definitely get into Northwestern without any huge awards- one of my friends did.

And awards/accomplishments are not the same as leadership positions or other ECs. I wouldn't considering being president of a club or val to be an 'award.' Being val is in a different part of the application so is being president.

I think you'd have a hard time getting into any top schools without any ECs, but that's not the question here, right?

I would thinkg that awards are not as critical as accomplishments (things you have done that have expanded you in some way). You may not get an award for some personal journey that made you stronger is some way.

Thanks for your guys' input!
