No Awards?

Hello,

I see that on a lot (all?) applications, there is a place to talk about your awards.
Well... I didn't really know when I should start... "seeking" awards. My particular area of interest (politics) does not really have a good award that I can get (to my knowledge, which is limited).

Many people have art or science awards, but neither of those things are "me." Neither are the English essay competitions I have seen.

I only know of a few competitions (Ayn Rand competition and the concord review) but is there anything else?

I got stiffed on the school book awards and stuff, so, besides like "honor roll" and "deans list (which is better)," there is nothing to put in that "Awards" area.

I'm a rising senior so it's probably too late, but for us History/Poly Sci people, are there actually awards available?

I did get something published somewhere good where all of the other writers are adults (I'm being intentionally vague), but that's not an "award" per se. To me, it's more of an EC. The concord review fits into this area, it's not really an award.

I'm looking at only one Ivy and the rest are lower, but still "top" schools. Just to put it in perspective...

Thanks a lot!

I got some nice awards, but only after I got admitted to college, so eh… it’s not required.

For social science, I know FBLA might have competitions in subjects that can interest you, like business law, Parliamentary Procedure, economic policy, that sort of thing.

I don’t have any awards either. It’s probably not that big of a deal, as long as the rest of your application is very strong.

Some types of ECs and achievement don’t lend themselves to awards, so you really shouldn’t worry. However in politics sometimes there are awards such as “Volunteer of the Year” and the like given to among interns working in an office.
