My daughter is a transfer applicant and Barnard is her top choice.

I just got a letter from Barnard (dated April 15) saying that they were missing my daughter's W-2s. It went on to say...

"The deadline for completion of your application for aid was April 1st. At this stage, we are unable to guarantee a financial aid award. If funds become available, we will consider all remaining complete applications. It is important, then, that you submit the information requested above immediately."

Since my daughter didn't submit a tax return, I missed the fact that they needed her W-2s. They received everything else within the time frame. I immediately faxed her W-2s and followed it up with an email to the financial aid office. I also plan on calling tomorrow to check on the status of her financial aid application.

I'm hoping that I didn't screw things up for my daughter if she's accepted, because without financial aid, there's no way she'll be able to attend. Aargh. I feel terrible just thinking about it.

Anybody out there have a similar situation? If so, what was the outcome? Thanks for your help!

That certainly seems a bit unreasonable on Bard's part...Most schools will provide you with every opportunity to get your stuff in before cutting you off...Definitely call them and complain!

I would not "complain". It sounds to me like they are NOT saying that there will be no money available....they are saying it is imperative that you get things in ASAP so she WILL get as much consideration as possible. I think you are right on track by faxing/e-mailing, etc. A call to confirm receipt of the info might be in order, but I don't think you should "fuss" (as we say in the south!) or anything!

And, by the way, my d was accepted rd to Barnard and their fin aid office (I am pretty sure) only looks at apps that are being seriously considered by the admissions committee...so I think your d is very likely to be admitted.

And I found the fin aid people there to be VERY nice...

churchmusicmom, i called the FA office this morning and breathed a huge sigh of relief when they told me that even though the W-2s were received late that it would not effect her financial aid evaluation and that the financial aid committee will now review her file. They were very sweet about it.

Congrats to your D on her acceptance to Barnard. I hope you're right that my D is likely to be admitted. This would put her on cloud nine!
